Rich people walk free and poor people sit in jail. That's guilty until proven innocent.

“Money is a deterrent to crime” is Dog an idiot? Money is usually the prime motivation for a crime.

judge darrell is right. since we're talking about stealing we should acknowledge that most things are stolen from corporations, not everyday people. and the fact prison doesn't help people ANYWAY. focusing a lot just on the bail aspect of this. WHY don't people have more money, is it seriously only a matter of having a job? 🤦‍♂️ brush up on sociology or keep your hands out of politics, you are not doing good here.

They are so so so wrong.
    It’s true.
Money let you be free until you are guilty or not.
I’m staying on his side, which is for bail reform.
I am so disappointed in this dog.

Why wasn't his big brother watching to make certain he stayed out of trouble while on supervised probation?

I love how Dog just completley says it, shamelessly classist. "Money is a deterrent to crime". There it is. Our justice is money and people are willing to say that as if it's a virtue. This is repulsive but very compelling.

Money does not deter rich people from breaking the law, they look at it as- “Oh, I can do this for $____.____.” And lets not act like rich people don’t already have an advantage, being able to afford attorneys who actually care.

  • Reply Glenda Davis March 3, 2020 at 6:18 pm

They are both right. I think we can all agree that first time non-violent offenders should are deemed NOT a flight risk should be released. Issue is when you take the power away from judges to deny release or allow release with conditions (GPS tracking, etc) that’s the issue. Also, for most people bail is a assurance you appear in court. You pay your bail and when you appear in court you get your money back.

  • Reply BrandiE March 3, 2020 at 6:25 pm

It's not at all perfect, & I agree w/points of all but Dog. Not all that accused are guilty, so how can they get a job & not steal. Jobs are low, & people who made a mistake when they are younger have a hard time starting over, especially w/a fellony. Add in less education, & they may not earn enough to scrape by, & w/food stamps & others cut, they're gonna struggle more. We need to help kids of poor families have what they need, since a hungry child can make any parent desperate, & help the kids w/school. BTW, not making excuses for myself, I've never been in trouble. I volunteered for yrs, w/programs that helped that are now cut or gone.

I feel like they’re all saying essentially the same thing: “something is not working right. Something needs to change.”
Now it’s just a matter of figuring out what it is that needs to change.
It would be nice if that could be the conversation instead of “You’re wrong” “no, you’re wrong!”

  • Reply Godless Melanisia March 3, 2020 at 8:16 pm

Dog forgets one simple fact. Desperate people do desperate things. Crime rates go down, when poverty rates fall, because people are more likely to commit crimes when they have no hope of anything better. So the solution is to keep squeezing money out of their communities?

  • Reply Jeremy Winston March 4, 2020 at 3:08 am

Of course Dog is against bond reform because it puts him outta of a job.
Bond reform is good for nonviolent offenders. To many ppl lose their cars, jobs housing etc because they can't make bond so they take a plea to get out faster even though they are innocent. If they didn't take a plea they have to wait even longer to go to trial which if they lose then they get even more time.
Bottom line bond companies are making tons of ppl. It's just another business.

  • Reply VancouverCanucksRock March 4, 2020 at 3:57 am

It's called the Judicial Industrial Complex. Without Criminals, lots and lots of Jobs are GONE!

  • Reply Anna Banan March 4, 2020 at 4:24 am

The only way criminals will ever see jail (because they will NOT be showing up for their hearings if they are truly guilty) will be if the judges will be forced to hear the cases within moments of an arrest. Judges court dockets are backed up for months, if not years — so basically, no criminal will ever be charged with a crime after being arrested. This 'bail reform' only creates a revolving door from streets to cops/arrests and back to streets. It doesn't ensure justice for the victim at all – in fact it denies justice for the victim. What you are creating is more repeat offenders perpetuating more criminal behavior because they now know they will walk. Think of how many people are repeat offenders and amp up their behavior while they await their trials out on bond now — the sexual predators, the stalkers, the thieves — and you want to take away my 2nd amendment rights???? Fools. I hope this Harris Cty PA judge encounters one of his felons he took care of to get taught a personal lesson of what his stupidity cost our communities and our nation.

  • Reply James Rogers March 4, 2020 at 10:50 am

Of course Dog is against bail reform. It's his entire business model. The cash bail system is completely unjust to the poor and for him to say if you're poor don't commit crimes is ridiculous on its face.

  • Reply gorobot March 4, 2020 at 1:05 pm

You can either process cases quicker or reform the bail system, those are the only choices. You can't keep a person in jail for days/weeks/months before they can even defend themselves just because they can't afford to buy there way out. It's nonsense. Police can charge me for a random crime, i sit in jail for months before i even get the chance to say i'm innocent? People complain about having to wait 3 hours to see a doctor at a hospital yet it's fine to wait 3 months in jail to see a judge?

Sometimes poor people don't have enough education to just "get a job", you simpleton schmuck, and they aren't motivated enough to go flipping burgers either because those kinds of jobs hardly provide a living wage. The U.S. "justice" system is a joke because the laws are made by politicians who have been bought off by corporate lobbyists, which is why there are private profit-driven prisons. Also throwing innocent people in prison for "crimes" like marijuana possession and prostitution doesn't help either. And the war on drugs is evil because it treats drugs as a criminal issue instead of a health issue. True justice focuses on health and education, not punishment and sadism.

I don't think that anybody should be sitting in jail for 3 years waiting to go to court for stealing a damn backpack, we are supposed to have the right to a speedy trial, this kid did not get that. I also however, don't think people should he let out of jail for getting arrested for free. Some of the crimes that this new law is letting out for nothing would suprise people if they looked into it, some are sexual crimes and even violent.
