Once again , great information. Thank you.

  • Reply ladyplantenergy March 17, 2014 at 1:12 pm

Is there a difference in turmeric being used fresh and raw? Or fresh and cooked? Or dried and cooked in its ability to aid in killing cancer cells?

  • Reply Matt N March 17, 2014 at 1:23 pm

    yellow is the new black

On the note of absorption, heated curcumin seems to be more bio available, but most of these studies were done in vitro, aka a petri dish. How do we know that enough curcumin will survive the gut and have a meaningful impact when ingested through food?

Thanks for sharing Dr. Greger. You're videos are inspiring!

  • Reply Wyatt Herbivore March 17, 2014 at 2:41 pm

What are the daily recommended amounts of curcumin? And, I'm still a little confused as there is turmeric and curcumin on the market. Is it the same thing???? Thanks for your time in advance.

  • Reply Howard Johnson March 17, 2014 at 3:31 pm

Thanks.  Keep the good info comin.

I got 5 pounds of the stuff and intake it as often as possible each day.  Do you know how much space 5 pounds of it takes up?

I hope you stated how many should we take in order to achieve such wonderful effects of turmeric.

  • Reply FermenTed March 19, 2014 at 4:51 pm

I'd like to learn about eating turmeric root vs. turmeric powder vs curcmin.  Which is more bioavailble?  Is it sufficient to add turmeric powder to our food or in the concentrated curcumin better for us.

  • Reply Feldenkrais with Alfons March 19, 2014 at 9:31 pm

forgot to count: bacteria incoming . there are 10 times more bacterial cells in your body than human cells . For one thing, bacteria produce chemicals that help us harness energy and nutrients from our food .

Curcurmin in the form of Theracurmin is the most bioavailable to the body…..

  • Reply Alaina Reilly April 10, 2014 at 11:25 am

Anyone know how much to consume on a daily or a weekly basis?

  • Reply Calvin Sylveste April 12, 2014 at 1:14 pm

Most people suffer from a failure of imagination.
You cant patent something natural but you can if you change it a little.  Turmeric is consumed quite frequently in certain populations that still have normal rates of cancer so it may require more than just eating it…here comes the money train…all aboard.

  • Reply Wise Student April 13, 2014 at 7:29 pm

Does any average person need all this scientific detail ?????  Just tell us that Curcumin kills Cancer cells and leave it at that !!!!

  • Reply April 18, 2014 at 4:43 am

Awesome! I'm going to start adding more turmeric to my dishes.  It's awesome that it appears to kill cancer cells and leave regular cells alone!

  • Reply Michael Hayes April 24, 2014 at 1:57 pm

My parents use tumeric every day. They buy the powder and gelatin capsules and fill them themselves, saves alot of money. They use tumeric because of its anti-inflammatory REALLY helps arthritus. Now we know it has another huge benefit!

I like that… our bodies are made up of three things… air, water, and the food we eat.  So simple yet so important.

I'm VERY CONFUSED NOW, all other scientist say that we have more than 50 trillion cells, and they turn over every 11 monts, and you say totally different numbers !!

Excellent video! There are several technologies available now for increasing absorption of turmeric supplements.  I recommend searching out Longvida curcumin preparations for maximum cellular delivery in this context. That's what we are using now at Healing Oasis (

A wonderful way to take turmeric every day is this method:

    1. Heat up a cup full of milk
    2. Add a reaspoon of turmeric
    3. Mix in a teaspoon of honey
    4. A pinch of black pepper will increase its "bioavalibility".

Tastes wonderful and does your body good.

Black pepper contains an ingredient called "piperine" which sends a signal to your liver to allow more of the turmeric into your system instead of being flushed away by urine.

Id love for this to be tested. This and many other claims. Sites like viral alternative news just propagate this stuff by the second. Also there is a new trend, the organic-juice-detox trend. So not everything is what it appears to be.
Im like you, I believe it, but I also question it. Seems like most people commenting here do not.

I'm shocked that there's yet to be a heavily publicized study about the benefits of Black Seed nigella sativa in the West as of yet. It's used as more of a medicinal additive than a spice in many Islamic societies but the benefits are overwhelming.

Not a bad video but because of all the pro vegan BS not sure whether to believe it

  • Reply BijouLover8 January 14, 2017 at 7:54 pm

Grow fresh turmeric and ginger in your back yard in about 6-8 mos and never run out of It. Buy a wheatgrass juicer and no need to peel them….take the juice out of each. From turmeric is the CURCUMIN. PUT EQUAL PARTS OF EACH IN A BLENDER AND WARMED GOOD HONEY….not store bought. Blend all three together and add Pepperine if you choose. Doing it this way…fresh…….turmeric has its own turmeric oil. Nature is great. Each morning place a tablespoon or so in a few ounces of silk coconut milk. Tastes like egg nog. The dried power in capsules are pretty much useless….all processed out. Do it this way and you will definitely feel the difference…..super energy. Honey is a preservative, so no need to refrig. It's ready to go each morning. FRESH GINGER AND TURMERIC AND HONEY…THATS THE CURE!

Started taking a bit over a tablespoon a day. Powder in water is unpleasant but just wash it down with some tea or something.

  • Reply Thomas Schmidt May 15, 2017 at 8:24 am

".. we are what we eat .." = BS to the power of indefinite !!
just ONE example – wolf eating sheep all his live does NOT become sheep ..
we are NOT what we eat, we are indefinite conciousness inhabiting a physical body, which is essentially(!) depending on our spiritual attitutde, rather than on what we eat –
even eating NOTHING will keep it "going" ..

Attractive for drug development because is not bio-available to the extent necessary to be therapeutic, i.e. a death sentence for the cancer cells. Right?

  • Reply BijouLover8 March 29, 2018 at 9:24 pm

Either grow it or buy it fresh from health food stores…….stuff in jars for spices in grocery stores is junk! The capsules on the market today is very questionable, depends on whose made it. Buy it fresh…grow it, it's easy…….grind up into powder after drying and put into your own capsules or. put into milk with Ginger, which is Turmeric's brother….add some honey. Dehydrate is great, then grind up into powder. You also can juice it. Do your research…..cost less and you will reap the benefits. So much fake…false…..junk out there. A lot of videos to learn from on utube. Get the real stuff!!

  • Reply toppertruthio June 3, 2018 at 9:52 am

to get the curcumin to act on the cancer, you need to add ground black pepper,or its too weak

Curcumin is the extract of the spice Turmeric. If one wants to prevent cancer you should take Curcumin extract at 95% curcuminoids with a piperine extract at 95% or with coconut oil or lecithin for absorption.
