I can’t thank you enough. I have been struggling with epidemic, so hard to find the right music, and when I finally do, it feels like total random chance…. it’s like throwing darts in the dark.

Thanks, Tom! You introduced and got me looking at artlist. Been trying to figure out a place for better music!

Thank you so much for making this video! I will definitely have a look at Artlist. I really think you are one of the most underrated channels on YouTube,

  • Reply Zebulous May 30, 2019 at 5:46 pm

Good info. This video is phenomenally nerdy.

  • Reply Miss Hitomi May 30, 2019 at 8:06 pm

beware artlist seems cool but they don't have a monthly subscription. I didn't realize this and ended up paying the whole $199.

  • Reply Kai Andrew May 31, 2019 at 1:53 am

Question: Do I have to attribute the artist/song in the description when using sites like Artlist?

  • Reply Travis Wilber May 31, 2019 at 2:23 am

Soundstripe is another, licensing not as flexible as artlist tho

  • Reply Travis Wilber May 31, 2019 at 2:25 am

That table of contents timestamps in the description is great, wish more people did that

  • Reply Benjamin Obermoser May 31, 2019 at 8:43 am

What are your thoughts on Musicbed? I'm loving the artists I find there!

  • Reply Jeremy Tryon May 31, 2019 at 7:30 pm

If you're going to note artist $1 price increase, you should also mention its billed annually.

Awesome video! I was struggling to find the right songs for my YouTube channel – Artlist is definitely a lot easier to search for the right song than Epidemic but I can see the advantages of having both. Anyhow, like your presentation and info – just subbed!

My Issue with Epidemic Sound is that I need a running subscription to have the music licensed. That means that any Intro, Jingle, Logo or other repetitively used element of the channel, using their Music or Sound Effects, has to be reproduced, once the subscription ends. Your are not allowed to use it further without running subscription. For me a big NOOO GOOO…. Sorry guys, but great music anyway 😉
Artlist therefore license any track you download there forever. So even without subscription, you can use it again and again, without any issues or copyright claims.

I use Artlist for all my videos promoting my restaurants! It has really stepped up production value. I wish I had seen this video a long time ago… fantastic information very well presented! Thanks for the help..:. I just hit that subscribe bell!

  • Reply SquigglyVlogs August 2, 2019 at 3:50 am

I use epidemic sounds because I used to be on a partnership with a network and they pay for it and still do lol

  • Reply Bronson Holbeck August 7, 2019 at 2:27 am

So if you use artlist, and download a song for your video and use it, do they give you something to put in the description verifying you legally licensed to song from them? Or how is it known that you didnt get that song by different means?

  • Reply Pink Lightning Gacha and Gaming August 8, 2019 at 12:40 am

I could write a song about dog turds and it would still be better than any song on artlist

  • Reply Jason Keen August 11, 2019 at 11:51 pm

Thanks for the video… Just signed up for Artlist and used your link for the 2 free months!!

  • Reply Aws Rh August 15, 2019 at 7:46 pm

artlist is a good choice, just subscribed using your affiliate link 😀

  • Reply Justlife August 17, 2019 at 8:26 am

Artlist i still miss sound effects

  • Reply Ramy Melhem August 18, 2019 at 5:53 am

Regarding ur comment at 5:05 the fine print in the contract stated that if u cancel artlist within the 2 week window, then it is illegal to use any of their music that u downloaded in that period.

Otherwise amazing video. I'm with epidemic but so much of their stuff sounds like it was recorded using an iphone app. The gems are few and far in between. The music on Artlist is super high quality. I'm going to use the affiliate link u have right away.

  • Reply Avery D'Alessandro September 3, 2019 at 9:04 am

With Artlist you need to pay the entire year upfront. Epidemic lets you pay monthly. Huge difference for those on a budget

Doing a little binging on your channel?. Really good content! Totally agree with all your points on this one. These are the 2 sites I use also. Both great for different reasons. I like all the SFX and individual stems on Epidemic. But Artlist has some great music and I do like their licensing better. ???

  • Reply Avin Richards October 3, 2019 at 1:26 pm

Hi man, Epidemic pricing shows it includes "social media boosting", any idea what that means?

  • Reply Johnny Marra October 4, 2019 at 9:34 pm

Thank you so much. You are so thorough.

  • Reply Cviksi October 5, 2019 at 11:24 am

well I had a question to ask and as I was typing it the same moment you started talking sound effects…… so, you answered it already. all I can say now is, great video, man.

  • Reply George Miller October 26, 2019 at 7:42 pm

Would it not be better to choose/hire a music artist for a fee and get a custom score that flows with the video's footage? This approach allows for creative collaboration and the ability to make tweaks with visual/audio relationship during post-production. The best films we see by directors/creators is when they make music part of the production process. Why are new directors/producers thinking about music at the last minute and reaching to a file library. This feels unprofessional. Any thoughts? 🙂

Dude… THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! I am slowly moving into client -only based work and was curious about the licensing requirements of each of these platforms! You perfectly explained both! Thank you! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! You rock dude!

Just messaged to ask about all this before signing up, and their response was "You can cancel it at any point but you will have to remove the projects from the internet and we will not be able to refund you" so I guess not so much "In Perpetuity".

  • Reply Eudaimonic Traveler November 13, 2019 at 7:21 am

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the two sites! Artlist has been my choice from the moment I came across it. I can't wait to get a subscription.

Great video! Epidemic sound made a claim against my YouTube account for a song a licensed from them. Since I re-uploaded the video after I switched to audioblocks and artlist, they claimed my license was up on the song. Even if that's their policy, Epidemic is greedy imho.
