Stomach bug hits Pasco school

WITH A HIGH OF 86. WE WILL HAVE THE EIGHT-DAY TEMPERATURE TREND TAKING YOU THROUGH THE NEXT COUPLE DAYS INTO THE WEEKEND. A BAD STOMACH BUG IS PLAGUING AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. MORE THAN 100 STUDENTS WERE ABSENT YESTERDAY. ALMOST ALL OF THE STAFF IS SO SICK THAT THEY CANNOT EVEN COME IN. Reporter: THIS IS SOMETHING YOU CERTAINLY DO NOT WANT TO GET. THE SCARY PART IS HOW FAST IT CAN SPREAD. YOU MAY NOTICE THAT BY HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE SICK. LAST WEDNESDAY THE PASCO COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT SENT A MESSAGE TO PARENTS WARNING THEM ABOUT A GASTROINTESTINAL ILLNESS. IT SAYS INDIVIDUALS CAN BECOME INFECTED IN SEVERAL WAYS INCLUDING EATING FOODS AND DRINKING LIQUIDS OR TOUCHING SERVICES THAT ARE CONTAMINATED AND THEN TOUCHING YOUR MOUTH. THE SCARY PART IS HOW EASILY IT SPREADS. SYMPTOMS OF THIS ARE VERY NASTY. THOSE SUFFERING HAVE DIARRHEA AND VOMITING AND FEVER AND FATIGUE AND A HEADACHE AND BAD STOMACH PAIN. MOST PEOPLE GET THIS VIRUS ANYWHERE FROM 1 TO 3 DAYS, BUT IT CAN BE LONGER IF YOU GET DEHYDRATED. THE SCHOOL DISTRICT IS ASKING BOTH STUDENTS AND TEACHERS TO PLEASE DO NOT COME TO SCHOOL UNTIL THEY HAVE NOT SEEN ANY SYMPTOMS FOR 24 TO 48 HOURS, BECAUSE 70 PEOPLE AT THE PASCO COUNTY SCHOOL ARE VERY SICK. THEY ARE ALSO COMMITTING PEOPLE WASH THEIR HANDS FOR 20 SECONDS WITH WATER AND SOAP.
