I think in the case of the embryos the law shouldn't even exist, in my opinion the party that no longer wishes to provide genetic material shouldn't be forced to donate it to the other party.
I could see that getting held over the other parties head forever about how they have a child they have no right to.
As for wanting children while being unable to have them, there is always adoption, and we DESPERATELY need more capable people to step up and adopt.

How is it even a thing that woman can take men to court to overturn contracts that they agree to? It’s one more way you can see how society supports the unaccountability of females. Let’s not talk about the numbers coming out of single parent homes and she wants to make one.

  • Reply Miss Way January 30, 2020 at 3:43 am

Ah man that's a hard one. She lost her reproductive abilities and has frozen fertilized eggs. It must be emotionally difficult for her to think about not being able to use her own eggs. If it were just her eggs frozen it would be clear that she should have her own eggs to have her own child. But since they are already fertilized with her ex's sperm, it makes it complicated. I'm surprised the ex won't sign a contract waiving his parental rights given the circumstances. But if he won't and he doesn't want her having his biological children without him as a parent, that's his choice and I agree with the court.

I wish she frozen only her eggs! Would have made this easier for her. I can empathize with her on this one.

Maybe they could’ve come to some agreement where she had a contract written not to seek out child support etc for the child or children conceived.

Because of her cancer treatments she can’t reproduce. I think it’s wrong to take her only chance of having biological children away from her.

1:25 I would comment my full opinion on this stripper "enabling" incident, but I think Phil's take on it is fair enough. so I'll just second that.

Doesn't mean I'd value strip club culture for myself, but if it's not directly hurting someone, and it's the work some people have chosen to do, I can't fairly accuse someone of being unethical just by tossing some dolla dolla bills their way… 🤑

  • Reply WolfgangLMclain January 30, 2020 at 5:35 am

Sensible laws come into effect too late. Seriously, the right thing to do is release the father from legal responsibility so she can use her eggs… Fuck, that feels bad.

  • Reply Anthony PC January 30, 2020 at 5:45 am

1:55 This fertility conflict is really ethically interesting, because of how varied people's opinions seem to be on the dilemma.

I think people should have a right to control their own biology, so it would feel like a violation to use a person's gametes (a sexual germ cell AKA egg or sperm) against their will. like SORRY if it's an inconvenience to your own plans of reproducing (rather than adopting) a child for yourself, but it's My gamete, my choice…. right ?

Adoption really needs to normalized. Spending hundreds of thousands of medical dollars to have a baby that "looks like you" is ridiculous, especially when there are hundreds of thousands of children who need homes. It's kind of like a f-you to all orphans, "I have enough money to undergo $$$$ of medical procedures but I would never consider helping you"

Here is the thing- I think that they should respect the original contract end of this story.
Here is the other thing for another story- If you won't allow a woman to have an abortion you should shut up about what she does with frozen eggs that functioned as saving her biological data for future children because she WANTS to then have kids and can not do so with another partner. (If a sperm donor can fertilize the frozen eggs than do that, but if that were the case why would this even be a discussion.)

"State law passed in 2018 with Torres' case in mind requires courts to give viable embryos from divorced couples to the parent who wants a child going forward". <– This right here is where the problem lies. Who in their right mind thinks that it is ever right to force a person to allow their genetic material to be used to make a human being against their will? What crackpot Arizona lawmaker thought that up? It's not like a divorcing couples' third car that doesn't run. You can't just say, "Well since Janice wants to send it to the scrap yard, than clearly it should go to Mark who wants to get it running again." NO! We're talking about a child here.

Just because you release someone from the responsibility of paying child support does not mean that the co-opted genetic parent is completely off the hook. What about complications involving family medical history? What about that child growing up and getting the idea that they've been abandoned by someone who should have loved and raised them? What about that child being used against the co-opted parent to create a sense of financial obligation? What about the fact that your blood and the blood of your ancestors are literally running through their veins?

Isn't it just so much more sensible to make a law that says, "Thou shalt have a binding written agreement covering different eventualities BEFORE thou makest a viable embryo with another party and then abide by it."

  • Reply Emily Klein January 30, 2020 at 7:53 pm

There hadn't been a RAID ad for a while. I thought maybe you guys decided that integrity in a news organisation is more important than the stack they throw your way for every spot, but nope… still promoting a product that sees children developing gambling habits and addicts in financial hardship from a company owned by the second largest slot machine manufacturer on the planet.

I stopped supporting Phil through DeFranco Elite and merch as soon as he started running those ads and it made me rethink my position entirely on Phil and the direction the company is going. If any of you give a crap about scruples in business and actually wanted to see PDS and his other projects develop into reputable and influential works, please stop supporting Phil while they are still willing to sell out to a exploitative and ethically bankrupt companies like Plarium and Aristocrat Leisure Limited.

    Some copy paste:

To anybody who holds Phil and Rogue Rocket to a higher standard than that of conventional or mainstream media organisations, please read on because there is a disturbing fact that only a small percentage of Phil and Rogue Rocket's audience seem to be aware of and even fewer who care.

Right now there are regular sponsorship spots being given to Plarium and their games on the Phil DeFranco show. Plarium is a subsidiary of Aristocrat Leisure Limited, which is a gambling machine manufacturer. They are the second largest manufacturer of slot machines in the world and in 2017 they spent around $1.4 billion acquiring Plarium and Big Fish Games. In short, Phil is regularly promoting gambling companies that are currently being investigated and even facing class action lawsuits and a mountain of scrutiny for unscrupulous and grossly unethical business practices.

If you or your team vetted that company you should have encountered a wealth of info highlighting why there are concerns raised about their dealings and products. From gameplay and pay2win algorithms modeled almost exactly like slot machines (I'll repeat this for emphasis: Plarium was acquired in 2017 by Aristocrat Leisure Limited: literally a gambling machine manufacturer that get the bulk of their revenue from half-demented retirees and gambling addicts pissing away pensions on rigged machines in dark corners of casinos), to entirely fake "gameplay" trailers which are being marketed largely at children, to the actual numbers ie. average spend per user and daily revenue from in game transactions being huge red flags about the nature of these games and how they operate.

The fallout of their demonstrably criminal misconduct is millions of people with severe addictions that have lead to tens of thousands of cases of financial hardship and they are subject to none of the regulations that gambling operators have to be compliant with despite the games being nothing more than rebranded slot machines with a powerful social hook.

In the same breath that you would espouse integrity and ethical business dealings as being tenets your company hold essential, you promote morally bankrupt developers of the equivalent of digital crack and you personally contribute to harm and issues with addiction for millions of often young or vulnerable users.

It's pretty disgusting that this continues to be a thing. I ask those of you reading this who are actually informed on this problem and know of what I speak, to thumb this up or copy paste it until there's some sort of explanation or Plarium is no longer used as a sponsor. It's something they should be doing an exposé on – not taking cheques from to promote companies that exploit life-destroying addictions.

Some links with info, some directly related and others highlighting some of the issues that are arising with these games and how they operate:

I think having children which are genetically yours is overrated. I would like to raise a kid someday but I strongly oppose subjecting one to the messed up genetics I have and the majority of people also have messed up genetics. Adoption is always a great option if you have trouble with your own reproduction system and donation can be a great option too. I'm not saying we should stop people from having kids of their own genetics if they want to, just that it's not for everyone. In that specific case I think I'd side with not forcing someone to become an unwilling parent.

  • Reply Naomi Nekomimi January 31, 2020 at 2:13 am

I don't think the embryos should be used without his consent. As an infertile woman i recognize the difficulties more than most. But no one should become a parent against their will, especially with a contract. Would he have agreed to the contract if that law were in place?

Maybe she could get his consent somehow, like by compensating him as a sperm donor?

6 times Palestine was offered a state of their own and all 6 times they rejected it.

    1. 1936, the Peel Commission offered them 80% of the land of Israel and the Jews would get 20%. The Jews accepted it and the Arabs rejected it and instead pursued a violent rebellion.

    2. 1947, the UN voted to create two states. The Jews accepted the Arabs rejected and instead launched a war. After loosing the war most of the land that the UN had set aside for an Arab state was occupied by the Muslim nation of Jordan.

    3. 1967, The Arabs attacked Israel in The Six-Day war. Israel defended themselves and took the Jerusalem and the Gaza strip. Israel offered a two-state solution to the Arabs who began to call themselves the Palestinians. The Arabs responded with the Arab League issued the three No’s. No Peace with Israel, No Recognition of Israel and No Negations with Israel. Thus, they rejected peace again.

    4. 2000, Ehud Barak, Israel’s Prime Minister, meet with Yasser Arafat, Palestine Liberation, and Bill Clinton. Israel offered a two-state plan with Palestinian receiving all of Gaza, 94% of the West Bank and East Jerusalem as its capital. Arafat’s only response was no. “Arafat was here 14 days and said no to everything,” Stated Bill Clinton. Arafat did not even make any counter offers and instead launched a several suicide bombings and killed over 1000 Israelis and maimed 1000’s more.

    5. 2008, Ehud Olmert, Israel’s Prime Minister, offered Mahoud Abbas, President of Palestinian National Authority, all of Gaza, 94% of the West Bank, East Jerusalem as its capital and additional land. They rejected the offer.

    6. 2019, The United States offered a $50 billion investment and infrastructure with a mix of public and private financing to create at least a million new jobs for Palestinians with more than half of the cash to be spent in the economically troubled Palestinian territories. The Palestinian Authority rejected it.

Each point can be easily verified through internet searches.

She has a right to her body and should be the one to decide whether she wants a child or not. Honestly, I sympathize with her and her situation. These embryos are her best chance at having a child. However, in this case, rights to parenting should go both ways. I know that if I didn't want a child and my SO was planning on having a kid (fully planned, not a "happy little accident") regardless of my opinions, that would definitely be a deal breaker for me and I shouldn't be forced into becoming a parent or support a child I didn't want. However, if she wants the kid and if the guy doesn't need to take any responsibility I say go for it.

The irony of it being called a peace plan when it will almost definitely lead to more conflict in the region is hilarious.

Honestly I don't understand why the ex wife and ex husband don't just come to an agreement that he can have absolutely nothing to do with the child. Why withhold allowing a woman who can no longer procreate have a blood related child? The idiocy makes no sense to me.

I like how the courts are saying "no one should be forced to be a parent" when the man doesn't want the kid, but god forbid a woman wants an abortion for that same reason.
