Protect yourself against the flu

November 7, 2019

Getting a flu vaccine each year is the
first and most important step in protecting against the flu. Flu is a
serious illness that can make people miss work, not be able to care for their
family or even put them in the hospital. People in the US die from the flu
every year. Every one six months of age or older should get flu vaccine. It’s
covered by most insurance, including the Oregon Health Plan. It takes up to two
weeks for your body to protect itself after getting the vaccine so now is the
best time to get vaccinated. For people at higher risk, like older adults and
people with asthma, diabetes or heart and lung disease, flu vaccine is so important.
It can lower their risk of severe flu illness and prevent many health problems
that can come from having the flu. For more information visit flu.oregon.gov
