Interview with Maria Lao, MD, Internal Medicine and Weight Management Provider

December 12, 2019

My name is Maria Lao and I’m an internal
medicine physician at Pella Regional Health Center. When I was little my dad
was a doctor and watching him care for patients inspired me to be a physician. I
went to medical school at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. I grew up in
Wisconsin and every summer my family would take a trip because my dad enjoyed fishing. Pella Regional is a good fit for me
because I grew up in the Midwest and this is a great place to raise a family.
Outside of work I enjoy traveling biking and writing. The best part of my job is
getting to know each patient and helping them improve their health. The most
important advice I can share with my patients is to make healthy food choices
and getting regular exercise. The goals of the weight management program is to
help people on their healthy weight journey. One of the biggest challenges my patients based on their weight loss journey is making healthy
food choices that fit into their hectic day. I’m interested in nutrition and exercise
and helping people improve their health. (logo)
