How Will Virus Pandemic Affect 2020 Election?

March 10, 2020

Let’s get directly into audience questions. For the week, you can send these in really however you
want, but the best ways to use the contact form at David pack in dot com put audience question in the subject maybe your question will be answered next week, first question today, how, if at all, will
the virus pandemic affect the 2020 election? Well there’s, there’s two ways to answer that. It depends who can take credit or avoid blame for what happens between now and the election, that is
attributed to co9. So as an example, if we continue to see stock markets decline and there’s a global economic slow down, that’s attributable to co9 then it’s quite feasible that it will negatively affect
Donald Trump’s reelection chances. And as I’ve said before, a lot of this stuff is perception. The perception of the economy is a top voting influence when you think about what is going to motivate
people to get out and vote. Or not to vote to go out and try to reelect the President versus try to remove a president and often the perception is not actually in line with the reality, but that’s
effectively irrelevant. So, if Donald Trump a scenario one hot 19 is effectively controlled over the next few months and Donald Trump can take credit for it. He’s already taken credit for it. Even
though things are getting worse and worse, that is a likely I to help, but Donald Trump’s reelection in that the average voters may at least see Donald Trump is not having made the problem worse and
presided maybe over it, being resolved. If you believe that’s the path forward, if coat 19 continues to spread and the stock market continues to not do well, and they’re starting to be broader economic
concerns that perception regardless of its reality is likely to hurt Donald Trump. Remember that back in 2008 when the economy started to implode in advance of the November
2008 election that did at that late stage in the election campaign of Barack Obama. It did help him. It did help democrats late in that race.
There’s also the idea that not only would covet 19 continuing to spread and claim more lives. Every single one of them, tragic and horrible.
It’s possible that this will not only hurt Donald Trump, because you will be seeing is dealing with it poorly, but it’s also conceivable that it will remind people of how our healthcare system is
fundamentally not working. Remember that we heard from Donald Trump’s head of Health and Human Services last week, saying if… And when we have a cure and or vaccine for coat 19, it may
not be affordable to everybody, and that is very much front and center in putting people sort of in the mindset that may be a different healthcare system would be better suited to deal with something
like this. If you are a wealthy person who has no problem affording care, you were still at risk. If poor people can’t afford care screening, treatment, are avoiding going in to get checked which might
lead to being diagnosed, which might lead to selfquarantine walking around, going to work because they can’t afford not to. So, there is also a way in which cover 19 could very much back by
or on Donald Trump it could become Donald Trump’s Katrina, so to speak. And then there’s the very sort of MCA practical reality which is every candidate that’s running right
now including Donald Trump is either over 60 or over 70 AMI closures, almost 60 years old, the 03/06/20  Page 13 of 17
davidpakmanshow20200306commercialfree out there all the time, shaking hands with people. If this continues to spread, there is also the
mathematical reality that any or many of the candidates could themselves be affected personally by catching co19. and that’s another question mark altogether. So there’s no doubt, particularly as we
see the numbers, not improve, and worse and in many ways that cover could play a role in November of 2020 who it helps, who it hurts is certainly of political significance and my priority is
no matter what Don Junior says, people on the left, don’t want anybody to die because of cover 19. it was so responsible for him to say that it was so responsible for Mike pens. Not to immediately
say, I don’t believe any of our elected officials are looking for people to die. Michael Pence did not do that, and that’s a horrible reality as well.

The political rallies are spreading the virus, and it's getting worse by the day. They should be stopped immediately. It's high time for "social distancing" and drastic actions to slow down the spread of the virus. It's high time to get the presidential campaign going on online. Time to listen to the experts, for example: https://youtu.be/dcJDpV-igjs

I think Trump might be in trouble in the next election, all of my 30-55yr old educated conservative friends are quietly telling me they are "holding their noses" & voting Dem for POTUS, no matter who it is. Trump's handling of the coronavirus cemented it. I was VERY surprised.

I am from Europe and not familiar with your election system. Here some politicians and a member of parliament have caught the virus. Given that, as Pakman has said, candidates shake thousands of hands, hold crowded rallies and so on, what would happen if Sanders or Trump, both old, were to catch Covid 19 and one or both die? Who would take their place?

Don't give me evil thoughts about finding rich people to infect. 😂 I'm in the same county as Travis Air Force Base where a woman unknowingly contracted the virus. I have no health care and am pretty much alone and have to fend for myself. Yes, I am sick. And since there are only 200 test kits in the county you have to be hospitalized before they test you. The U.S. economic structure and healthcare system are the perfect breeding ground for COVID-19 to thrive. The U.S. will end up with more cases and deaths than any other country – including China.
China can order entire regions to be closed off to contain the virus for as long as it wishes to. The U.S. can"t even test their citizens without passing on a 3K bill for the service.
Sadly, it will be a complete disaster..

Bernie needs to bring out a nationwide ad discussing Bernie Bros PRONTO. Seriously. Yes, the Bernie Bros are OURS.

I've been to Facebook and Twitter recently and I've seen the voters of other candidates spell out in black and white this is their main issue with us – especially Warren voters now jumping ship to Biden. They AGREE with us on the issues, we're just a bunch of assholes to them about it. Which is turning them off. For some, this is their only hurdle from joining us despite our ideological compatibility. We are throwing away their votes. We are sabotaging ourselves!

Bernie has a million vote deficit vs Biden. We desperately need as much of them as possible to join our ranks and catch up. It is foolish to mock and dismiss them as fragile and not LISTEN to what they're saying.

There's a way I think Bernie could use this problem to his advantage. The ad could allow Bernie to cast himself as both a paternal figure, a uniter, a consoler of all the people Bernie Bros have been assholes to, someone to trust to bring the fight to greedy industry execs and DC corruption, a champion for people the party leadership has pandered to and then ignored and, as a finisher, the best possible candidate to bring down Trump.

Bernie could also use the ad to open up a little more about himself and humanize his movement and gain the trust of some suburban voters. But, above all, it will activate and give permission to all these gettable but hesitant voters to join us.

I cannot stress enough how important this is.

Remember folks, our motto is #NotMeUs. There is no "US" if we keep repelling possible voters and allies with our combative, abrasive, holier-than-thou behavior. That motto rings hollow to people if we keep attacking them.

Save the vitriol for Trump and his neonazi army in the fall.

  • Reply Urgelt March 8, 2020 at 5:15 am

Yes, Trump will be blamed by many for pain inflicted by COVID-19. It's happening on his watch. There will be more than economic damage. Overwhelmed hospitals aren't a good look, and neither is inadequate preparation or stupid messaging.

But there's another likely implication. If the SARS-2-CoV is still circulating on election day, which is possible, it will depress turnout.

That will work in Trump's favor. Much of his base regards diseases as avoidable through prayer or likely to strike those who deserve it (and not them), and the rest of his base is highly motivated to show up. Democrats can't muster that level of enthusiasm in their base unless they run a progressive candidate, which the party is determined not to do – and even then, a lot of science-crediting voters will simply avoid the polls out of reasonable caution.

The truth is that there aren't many true swing voters. There is a sizable number of voters who will refuse to declare a party affiliation, but most are ideologically aligned despite their refusal. Elections are won or lost by how motivated the parties' bases are to vote.

Trump will not lose much of his base. For the economy, for bad COVID-19 impacts, they will blame anyone Trump tells them to blame. Democrats, in a low voter turn-out scenario, will lose more than Trump.

So, we want to risk getting sick, our family and friends getting sick, and risk ourselves and others dying, just in the hope of bringing down dear daddy Donald? That sounds like more Trumpian projection. Yes, of course a Trumpian would think that. Even if we could control the virus so that somehow it affected only Republicans…. about half my friends and family are Republicans, and I don't want them to die. I just want them to come to their senses and turn away from the evil ones in the White House. I swear, it's like Invasion of the Body Snatchers! How can half my people prop up these pathetic monsters?

P.S. How can a son of a man keep calling his dad by his last name? Junior says, "They want to bring down Trump." How about saying, 'my dad', or 'our president?' Of course, Trump himself talks that way. In a similar sentence referring to himself as 'Trump' instead of 'me' or a Republican president.

So thanks to COVID-19, here's how Tulsi Gabbard can still win:

Just kidding. She can't, but she should be allowed on the debate stage since the rules were literally changed after she picked up delegates.

Bernie needs to toss the question back at the anti M4A crowed:

When a vaccine is available and it costs $2000 to $3000 dollars a dose, how are you going to pay for that?

Since everyone needs to be treated for it to be effective or you'll get reoccurrence, like playing Whack-A-Mole.

Sounds like socialized medicine if the government needs to cover the cost by even 1 dollar, so that could be a shot in the foot of the current system.

Bad time to be an American in need of healthcare, if you beat the virus the bill may kill you.

In Ontario Canada they're telling us if you think you have it stay home give us a call and Health Ontario will send someone to come test you in your home.

    Socialized house calls, imagine that.

This should/could be bad news for Bernie and Trump with these massive rallies.

Biden need not worry most people will choose to fall asleep at home than a stadium.

Pakman: “Nobody on the left wants anyone to die from Covid-19.”

    Pakbros: “TRUMP IS INFECTED! YAS!”

  • Reply Chris G. March 8, 2020 at 2:53 pm

Yep. It will be used as an excuse by those currently corrupting the rule of law and constitutional process to push forward and enact policies that continue the trend. That’s likely going to include a nationwide state of emergency. The usual idiots in the population will fall for it and support it.

It would've blown over by the time of the election. People forget and vote based on what somebody said a week before the election.

  • Reply bobpeters61 March 8, 2020 at 3:32 pm

Considering that the psychopath in chief is telling his desciples to go in to work sick with CoVid-19, it's actually fair to say that Trump wants Americans to die.

Hey, Pakman just discovered your show through your Jan. 29, 2020 show about Trump's brain glitch and guess what? I checked it out on the Wildwood NJ Rally at the posted time of 7:56 ET and IT NEVER HAPPENED! Your subscribers can see this for themselves on the White House channel and see for themselves what a liar you are. I forwarded it and your vile claim that he had syphilis and that is what caused it!! In hopes of it being seen by the proper authorities. Better find yourself an extremely good lawyer!!! And since you mentioned several of those brain glitches have happened, maybe you should find several good lawyers. And if you simply copied and passed on without checking the facts, best get all that info together and save your @$$! The Truthmaestro

Covid19 kills .1 percent of those under 50… Similar to flu. Those under 1 or over 65 it kills 15 percent. Old people vote for Biden and trump. I am cheering for Covid19 and coughing on everyone I can. I cant afford to not go to work. You made your bed, now die in it. Do your part and get old people (boomers) infected. Bye boomer.

  • Reply WestOfEarth March 8, 2020 at 6:37 pm

I've seen recent data that shows the number of cases in the US is doubling roughly every 7 days. In mathematical terms, this means in 32 weeks (November) the number of cases would be 4 billion. But of course no where near that number of people live in the US. Near future, say end of June, over 16 million cases. So the extent to which this doubling is slowed is highly dependent on what happens now.

Sorry, but you can't catch COVID-19. You are infected with SARS-CoV-2 (or put simply, the coronavirus 2019). Just as you can't catch AIDS. You are infected with HIV. But I must admit that it is simpler to use a ''code word'' recognized by all, when working in the media like you. Same difference, in the end…

It is estimated that forty percent of the world's population will be affected by COVID 19. Forty percent! And still I am seeing and hearing denial and a refusal to face what needs to be done to stop this from exploding into an even worse situation. I am seeing a bombardment of ads for cruise holidays and trips abroad, when what we should be doing is thinking about staying as close to home as possible and avoiding going to work if we are experiencing even a suspicion of illness. A capitalist society wants the risk to always be on the working people, and refuses to accept financial loss as the lesser evil in any situation. This isn't a good time for a world that is so co-opted by money at any cost. We are truly screwed.
