How long is the Hospitalization for Pneumonia

November 17, 2019

What might a typical stay be in the hospital if for someone with pneumonia? We talking a couple of days, can it linger for a week at a time? I mean, again, I know every patients different, but—It… Absolutely. Just depends on the person, it just depends on what’s going on with them. Definitely somebody with comorbid conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, also used Alzheimer’s dementia, Parkinson’s. They’re gonna probably stay a little bit longer than somebody with only a history of hypothyroidism. So it just kind of depends on the situation.— I completely agree, it also depends on the age. The older the individual unfortunately they tend to have a longer hospitalization because of the comorbid conditions that may have, but also the severity of illness. Elderly people who come from a skilled nursing facility in particular are exposed to like I mentioned previously very highly resistant bugs and some of those bugs can really linger for quite a while and require a longer hospitalization. — Okay. We don’t want them to be there longer than they need to but again it just really depends on what’s happening. And one thing I took point out, not that we want to scare any of our viewers, but again it’s so important if you do think you’re suffering possibly from pneumonia to see someone because it can be fatal. Correct, i mean, if you just let it go untreated for too long. — Yes, definitely we don’t scare people, that’s why it’s important to figure out what the… your symptoms are right away and then seek attention right away. That way… The early the treatment the better the prognosis will be before the treatment of pneumonia
