How Long Is Candida Die Off Symptoms?

August 15, 2019

Thank you for checking out this YouTube channel
and thank you for tuning into this video today. Heres a question Ive been asked from a lady
in Australia. How long is Candida die off? How long does it take for me to finally overcome
these dreadful feelings that Ive got a die off?
Ive done a few videos on Candida die off and lets get one thing straight. Are you sure
that its Candida die off? Are you sure its not something else? Many people I see and
have consultations with swear that theyre getting Candida die off, but in fact theyre
not getting that at all. Theyre getting a totally different reaction. Theyre getting
a detox reaction or theyre getting a reaction to a change in diet or theyre getting a change
in the way they feel because theyve withdrawn certain foods from the diet.
So there are different reasons why you could be getting the feelings that youre getting,
and you may misconstrue these feelings and believe that its actually what we call a Herxheimer
Reaction or a die off. True die off occurs when lots of Candida die and release their
contents into the digestive system. Not in the bloodstream. Youre not going to kill millions
of Candida in the bloodstream and theyre going to create a toxic reaction. Its usually always
in the gut. When that occurs, you can feel pretty sick
and toxic. Normally, its going to last anywhere between two days up to about 10 days. Generally,
I would find five to seven days, and usually the first 24 to 72 hours are the most intense
and toxic experience, and then it will taper off, then youll feel fine again.
How can you avoid die off? You can avoid die off with common sense like anything in life,
but remember, Ive told you guys this before. Common sense isnt very common with a lot of
people out there who are treating for Candida. If youve got severe Candida, if youve got
major brain fog, if you feel spaced out and youve got joint pain and youre very sick,
youre tired, youve got a lot of gut problems, then you need to be very careful when you
start on a course of treatment, particularly a strong antifungal treatment. If you go too
quickly into something and take like a mega dose, there is a possibility youre going to
set yourself up for a fall. Youre going to feel pretty crappy. What you want to do is
go into it nice and slowly, nice and gently. I look at the sensitivity of the patient.
I mentioned before there are three types of patients I see. Theres the normal people like
me and you most probably. They account probably for about 75 to 80 percent of people, and
these people dont usually have violent reactions to things that they take. They can take B
vitamins. They can take fish oils. They can take multivitamins, vitamin C; they can take
all sorts of things. Theyre not allergic to pharmaceuticals. They dont generally react
to things quickly. They can generally find that they wont usually experience die off,
and if they do, its very mild. The people who experience die off the most
are the ones who are sensitive and particularly what I call the supersensitive. The supersensitive
are people that react to everything in life. They can take one vitamin C tablet and feel
sick for two days. They can take a B vitamin and they can have like a bad headache or not
sleep for two or three days. Theyve got known allergies and reactions to multiple foods,
chemicals, drugs, all sorts of things. If you know that youre very, very sensitive,
then you need to be very, very careful if youve got Candida because youre the person
most likely to experience the strongest reaction when you go on the correct course of treatment.
The regular patient will not experience this unless they do something dumb like take 50
antifungal tablets in one day, which some people do, by the way. Ive had some patients
take 30 to 60, even 90 tablets per day thinking that theyre going to get rid of it fast. Theres
no real benefit to that. All youre going to do is make yourself feel sick.
How do you know youre not experiencing an aggravation in terms of your diet? How do
you know youre not experiencing a withdrawal from caffeine or another food? Many people
who start on an anti-Candida approach make multiple changes at the onset too quick, too
soon, too many. That is a silly thing to do because then youre not really sure where these
feelings are coming from. Lets just say you were drinking three or four cups of coffee
a day or five or six and you stop all of a sudden, you started to change your food quite
rapidly in the same week and you took an antifungal and perhaps a probiotic all in the same week
and then you get sick and then you turn around to me and say, “Its a die off.” Well, hang
on a minute. What about the caffeine reaction? Maybe that could account for the skull-piercing
headache you had for three days. What about the fact that you stopped bread or gluten
all of a sudden? That could make the gut change. Bowel flora can change quite rapidly, too,
with a diet change and that can make you feel quite spaced out, sick and bloating.
If you really want to know whether youve got die off or not is make the diet change very,
very slowly and then very slowly introduce an antifungal. If you really want to know
whether its die off or not, dont make any changes to the diet, just take the antifungal
itself and then maybe take three or even four, even six doses per day. If you experience
bad feelings with the antifungal medication, this could well be related to die off, but
dont get confused. Too many people I see get confused and dont really understand what die
off is. If its true die off, its going to last as I mentioned between two days to about
seven to ten days max, but normally around five or six days.
I hope that answers your question. Thank you.

Are candida overgrowth and intestinal disbiosis essentially the same things or at least highly connected?

  • Reply Horen Varteresian February 4, 2015 at 6:36 am

Do you continue taking the antifungal while you're experiencing die off?

I've been having a rash on my face that looks like an allergic reaction since about the 3rd week of the candida diet. I am taking probiotics and supplements in low doses (oil of oregano, grapefruit seed extract, garlic extract, capryl) I was not a big coffee drinker (maybe once a week) before starting the diet, and ate relatively healthy and mostly gluten free. So I don't think its the withdrawal symptoms from that. At week 5 I went out with a friend and had 2-3 beers, and the next morning my face was completely rash free! When I went back on the diet over the course of the next week, the rash came back. As an experiment, the other day I drank 2 more beers, and the rash dissipated over night again. Do you know why something like this would happen? I thought I might be allergic to the supplements but I don't now that the reaction dissapears so quickly.

Hi, I'm 51 and have been diagnosed recently with IBD. I've have a heavy beer diet for 3 years beer and ate couple times a day on average, No fast food but some restaraunt food.  6 weeks ago I was diagnosed with sinisitis and given Bactrim. 180 DS. After 5 days I had light blood on my stool and toilet paper Bright red so somewhere lower.. Discontinued the antibiotic. Went to the emergency just because. CT/xrays/blood tests/urine test. No idea about the blood. Healthier than the doctors. Went for a follow up at the GI and scheduled a colonoscopy. Results 3 weeks later were typical of crohns, or ulcerative colitis  showing inflammation of the colon, and anal area.   Wanted me to take lialda 4 a day. That was a week ago. Since the sinus infection 6 weeks  ago I've have a serious shoulder pain that lasted for 3 days. Orthopedic doctor said after xrays and MRI isolated incident. Pain was gone in 3-4 days and back to normal. My joints seem to be a bit more touchy all over. Have an odd backache in the middle the was faint 6 weeks ago and a little more prominent now. eyes seem different barely and changed from 1.25 to 1.75 this week. Not blurry without them but a little different. tinnitus is a bit more regular right now and have a slight headach an the one side barely but it comes and goes. Neck has been stiff.  I need to make sure what is happening and quick. I was gearing up the change diet to battle the IBD and not take the medicine. Now With the amount of beer I was drinking everyday for a long time. I think It was a possible overgrowth breeding ground.  I need a comp. stool test , but where?  I on't want this to get more serious.  What should I do?   John

My yeast infection is getting better should i still be using the nystatin?

  • Reply john magee June 7, 2015 at 7:19 pm

My chiro put me on lauricidin, due to high white blood cell count and high RBC count (slightly high for both). He recommended it because it is great at fighting infections and helps with cfs.

I have been taking the minimum amount ( 1/5 scoop 1x per day for the first week, and just started 1/2 scoop 1x per day for my second week). I am now on 10 days and I am still getting acne and rashes on my face and neck. IS this normal?  Can I try another treatment (garlic, diet, turmeric, cayenne pepper w lemon water etc).

Should I take a week off and start from scratch?
I currently have adrenal fatigue (prob stage 3) and cystic acne issues. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Pau D'arco is excellent for killing candida.   And taking it a few times a week will ensure that the candida will not come back.  It's great for killing off yeast in your intestinal track..  Just make sure to use plenty of acidophilus to compensate because Pau D'arco kills both good and bad bacteria….

I find die-off to be the most unclear aspects of a lot of information out there. If you are getting it, is it a sign to ease off? I'm nearly a month in, had it bad early on, followed your instruction and now am easing back up. Taking raw garlic and Oregano twice a day and a strong Probiotic. Not as bad as before, but still noticeable die off is occurring. I believe relatively manageable die-off symptons are a necessary part of the healing process, and a sign that you're 'in the trenches' with the problem. Is this the case, doc?

Do you find that individuals with undermethylation experience more severe authentic die-off symptoms due to low levels of glutathione? If so, what is your approach to helping them remove the toxins released by die-off? Would you supplement with MSM? ALA? NAC? All of the above? I'm considering juicing cabbage and other high sulfur vegetables to help my glutathione production but I'm curious if there are additional, more comprehensive approaches. Thanks for your videos!

Ive been dealing with onset of several issues. I started with UTI about a month ago, dr. put me on 1 antibiotic, didn't work, put me on another, didn't work, 3rd ones the charms, so after so many changes in antibiotics, started getting a yeast infection, but also started itching in arms, groin, armpits, as I scratched red bumps like urticarial shows up inmediate, so dr. gave me fluconazole, 1 pill, took it didn't really work. I was itching like crazy specially at night. Dr. gave me a test said my sugar levels were kind of high 138 he said that could acct why I was itching, so started dieting/sugar restriction, so doing research came upon several videos, and realize I have candida, but it was going too slow , so I started with MMS and just the first dose took care of the itching, I slept like a baby for 5 hrs. got up took another dose not very strong (4 drops) into water, now the 2nd. dose, I starte3d feeling some symptoms, don't know what to make of it, so saw your video, im guessing its kind of a die off, feel my head kinda heavy, spaced out, not much itching, some sinus pressure. I do have a lot of food sensitivities and gluten sensitivity so I have stopped a lot of these foods since last year, but sodas , sugary drinks had not.  Im monitoring my sugar levels, bough a little monitor gone down to 120, exercising 4 times a week.  So how long does the die off last, until I keep doing what im doing? Or eventually the toxicity will leave my body?

  • Reply 3dmundo April 4, 2016 at 11:04 pm

Is antifungal pill treatment necessary? I have planned half a year candida diet with probiotics for 8 weeks, also want to continue some of good eating habits from the diet after this period. I am 18 days into my plan. Should I ask my doctor to prescribe some pills too? Or could I count on my gut flora and immune system to rebuild itself and fight the fungi? I have also found a small scalp infection (doctor said it is probably fungal) for which I am using two ointments: one containing terbinafine, and the other – naftifine. Innitially, I didn't want any pills for it because I was affraid to disturb the rebuilding of the gut flora but now – I'm no longer sure what would be best. Thank you for the videos!

Sorry for spamming your videos 😀 So I was eating pretty healthy foods before the candida hit me, but it was excessive I'm talking 10-12 ripe yellow bananas with brown spots a day for a while. and just lots of fruit in the morning almost every day for a month or 2 and my lunch consisted of an excess amount of brown rice (I was vegan with fish). I'm talking 2 cups (uncooked) for lunch and maybe 2-3 for dinner with some other food.

I didn't drink any coffee, have any sugar, no processed foods, besides brown rice cakes occasionally)

My point being…. Even though I didn't have processed foods, caffeine, alcohol, drugs, sugar (cane/processed), no wheat, etc. just natural whole foods. Will I still have have these die off symptoms right away from anti candida diet, or will I be having this false die off feeling you're saying here? (due to the excess amount of fruit sugar)

If I will be having these "false die off symptoms" how long will these generally last?

I'm controlling my dandruff by applying an oil called "neelyadi thaylaya" it is an ayurvedic oil. It will controll it . But it will cool down the skull.. And thus I'm sneezing nowadays.!

Hi Dr. Bekker =). I had symptoms of SIBO and began taking canxida remove and restore. 1 of each with breakfast, 1 remove at lunch and 1 restore before bed on an empty stomach for about 4 weeks now. I am eating mostly a "gaps" type diet, and taking dietemacious earth/bentonite clay. I did transition suddenly into this type of diet because I was very ill. I am having moderate belly pain and bloating still after doing this for a month. how do I know if it is a normal detox symptom or if I'm doing something wrong?

As of last January I started to exercise and became vegan but lost only a few pounds. I decided after watching all of your videos that Candida was my problem. Hope this medicine and life style change helps me.

Ibs, bloating, gas, foul smelling stools etc. Ive recently been watching ur video and googling images of candida in stools. My stools wete identical…floating..stringy….oil based….im convinced its Candida. Ive started my cleanse regiment by taking garlic tablets 2000mg total, milk thistle 1000mg and 1-2 teaspoons of braggs acv. Ive been itching quite a bit lately and a strange rash ive had on my left inner elbow(for about 2 years) is slowly fading. My stools have been even more candida like. This heavy denial of die off makes no sense to me. Maybe my overgrowth is just that bad I don't know, but I'm either feeding the candida or I'm not, and when I'm not the symptoms are extreme. Some days I feel like I'm going to die in fact. I wish he could make a video on how to combat the die off, rather than simply say "oh avoid die off by taking it easy".

I've been on a candida diet for 3 months now and my symptoms have dissipated and I lost 14 pounds. I feel energized and healthy. However, I have broken out in a rash all over my body. I've got ringworm looking rash on my abdomen, breasts, shoulder and neck, and oozy rash all over my calves and a flaky rash around my left eye (and also starting to appear around my right eye). These rashes itch like crazy (the one around my eye burns sometimes) and I don't know what I'm doing wrong! The rashes are effecting my life in a negative way. Have you had patients that experienced this? Thanks for any advice you can give.

I'm a bit unclear on how long I should be taking anti-candida supplements.

My routine has been to have probiotics and enzymes with each of my 3 meals, with things like apple cider vinegar and home made sauerkraut.

Then before bed, I've been taking anti-candida supplements.

I guess I'm wondering – is it possible that by taking anti-candida medication before bed that it is hurting my digestive system, or getting rid of the good bacteria that should be building?

I've recently tried to stop taking the anti-candida medication, but found that I got quite bloated and gassy again (even though I was still strict with the diet and consumed no sugar etc.).

Any input is greatly appreciated and I have to say I really appreciate you regularly uploading new videos with new info on youtube.

Die off makes me want to die and go to the other side. I've been going through this for 7 years now. Went from 400lbs to 170lbs currently. Its a miserable path to be on.
