How can I help prevent the flu during the summer? – John Randolph Medical Center

October 24, 2019

The flu doesn’t usually
occur during the summertime. But some people will often say
that they have the “stomach flu.” And the “stomach flu” is not
actually influenza virus, but it is much more likely
to be gastroenteritis or one of the other summer viruses that
causes vomiting and diarrhea. It is possible to get
the flu in the summer. But most the time, people
wouldn’t recognize that, because we’re really not
looking for it at those times. But the general
idea for prevention is, again, to wash their
hands and stay away from people who obviously
have some sort of illness. And make sure that
people are covering their coughs and their sneezes.
