Not really, HIV is more like the attackers who climb the ladder and attack the archers on the wall: they are not good at close range combat: What a vaccine would do is teach those archers hand to hand combat so that should HIV scale the wall, then the archers are not defenseless.

I wish they didn't give you any vaccines at all as a kid, and saved those shots for someone with a brain.

  • Reply TheTerriblePuddle March 8, 2013 at 10:56 pm

Your immune system needs to learn and that is where vaccines comes in.

  • Reply eurohim March 8, 2013 at 11:19 pm

Learn something about the actual history of medicine, vaccines and disease and you'll see how wrong you are as clear as day. Polio and Smallpox are a good place to start.

  • Reply Dzikkaz March 9, 2013 at 1:12 am

Yes, you are born with an immune system, but how can it fight a disease that it has never met? Vaccines "train" your immune system, so that when your immune system encounters the treat, it can deal with it.

Why don't you go expose yourself to some smallpox or polio and see how well you fare. As for diseases like measles, mumps and rubella, they might have relatively low mortality, but the symptoms are certainly worse than the discomfort and cost of their vaccines.

  • Reply DiRiN March 9, 2013 at 5:46 am

The flu changes at such a drastic rate that the vaccine you are getting is too old, and will only work on the previous strain that was rampant 1 year ago. Vaccines are too late to stop a virus because of the rate of mutation. there are plenty of studies done outside the US that prove vaccinations for Flu do not work. it's explained in the first 2 mins of this video. 🙂

you realize the difference between vaccine research and pharmaceutical companies, right??? we're talking about viruses. Viruses mutate, especially the flu virus. If you make a vaccine that turns out to not work as well as it should, that's a one way ticket to bankruptcy. This is the sort of risk pharmaceutical companies don't want to be associated with. That's not even the real problem. You can't convince people to buy vaccines for more than it takes to make them. How can anyone not see this?

  • Reply Frozen Eggplant March 9, 2013 at 8:05 am

I wonder how we survived for millions of years till now with out vaccines. Dam guess are body never worked out these viruses mutate. And never worked out how to control mutation it's self. Guess our bodies are stupid as fuck. Why am I not dead… I guess oh because my body has a immune system and when I am super healthy it fights off viruses all on it's own. Wow, who would of known. In the past most people where unhygienic and lived in factory farm like conditions. Dark dingy houses.

  • Reply TheaDragonSpirit March 9, 2013 at 5:01 pm

Second look at any Victorian grave yard rich or poor. Before vaccines people died around 70 to 90 on average. Most people didn't die young in them days unless they had an strong case of malnutrition and there bodies failed them. All diseases that kill people is due to old age, and immune system failing, or people being unhygienic, possible radiation if they lived near high levels of natural radiation.

Of course they make money from vaccines or there would be none. The government pays for them.

Actually school teaches you feck all. I learned more on the internet than at school, par maths and some science.

Tell me how do they use eggs to make vaccines?

Second virtually all licensed vaccines in the United States are produced by just a handful of pharmaceutical companies: GlaxoSmithKline, Merck, Novartis, Sanofi Pasteur, and Wyeth.

Guess they do it for free and get no subsidizes off the government to pay for these vaccines. I must of missed that bit. Maybe they donate the money…

  • Reply Kamizushi Akinari March 10, 2013 at 9:34 pm

The problem is that unfortunately, vaccines aren't 100% effective. There are always a few people who got the vaccine but who's body didn't manage to generate effective antibodies. If everyone were vaccinated they would still be protected because of heard immunity (which is when there are not enough enough vulnerable people around to spread a virus in a population) but anti-vaxers are preventing it. You won't know if you among the unlucky until an infected antivaxer cough in your face.

  • Reply Kamizushi Akinari March 10, 2013 at 9:40 pm

One of the central principles of toxicology without which it doesn't make any sense: the dose makes the poison. Did you know there is uranium in the air? Did you know that a high dose of vitamin C can kill you? Perhaps you should stop eating veggies and even eating.

  • Reply Kamizushi Akinari March 10, 2013 at 9:45 pm

The antivax movement is led by altmed quacks. You think homeopaths don't make money?

Big Pharma makes money so we should all just get sick and die instead? Is that your argument?

  • Reply Kamizushi Akinari March 10, 2013 at 9:46 pm

Proven you say? Give me the paper's name, year of publication, the authors and the name of the journal who reviewed it.

  • Reply TheaDragonSpirit March 10, 2013 at 10:24 pm

My argument is that Big Pharma isn't in it to make people healthy, there in it to make money. That is there primary goal and they can only do that if people are sick. Like the people who make computer viruses are the same people who make anti viruses. You get my drift. They make no money by giving out free anti virus.

So the best way people can be healthy is by eating the freshest food from nature, not from a lab or GMO crop. From nature. Our bodies eventually over come diseases not from birth.

  • Reply Kamizushi Akinari March 10, 2013 at 10:41 pm

"Big Pharma" isn't a person man. The pharmaceutic industry hire millions of people many of which are directly involved in research. If you think all these people are into a big conspiracy to make you sick and none of them are speaking out you have no idea how the human mind work.

The "natural" life expectancy for humans without technologies is about 20-30 years, most people dying from starvation or diseases while they are still infants. More or less none of the food you eat comes from nature.

  • Reply TheaDragonSpirit March 10, 2013 at 11:49 pm

A few person own the companies I said. Those few people make a shit load of money. Just because most the people in this industries are pawns doesn't mean the ones who have the most shares don't make a shit load of money. You're naive if you think otherwise. Not quite as exiting as your initial comment might have suggested. The article you have cited is a proof of concept for an antiviral. Demonstrating that a virus grows slower in TZM-bl reporter cell line when exposed to melittin is light years away from finding a cure. At best, it might become one of a dozen of other antivirals already used to help HIV patients. Most likely its effectiveness will be disproved with further testing like hundreds of other potential antivirals before.

  • Reply princeofexcess March 15, 2013 at 2:01 am

the problem is with group immunities. Above certain percent whole population is immune below certain percent people are at risk and the virus mutates so even people that have the vaccine can get it now. Also smart individuals can also be misinformed because of lack of education.

Vaccines give you part of the virus that so that your immune system can build up antibodies and then if it comes into contact with the virus in the future will recognize it and defend itself. If no vaccine is given, it might not make up enough antibodies to fight the virus. So yes, you do need vaccines
