Full Procedure – Fiberoptic Laryngoscopy with Dr. Hermsen

November 5, 2019

Just go through your nose and looking first
at the inside of your nose. Now lets look at the other side too. Both sides are pretty
open. We are going to go down this side ok? Pressure between your eyes, sorry. Alright,
now we are at the back of your nose. Just breathe through your nose for me. Good. Looks
pretty normal, I don’t see a lot of drainage, bear with me. Good. You are doing excellent.
Stick your tongue out for me, stick it all the way out. Good, put it back in. Good. Alright,
so down to your vocal cords here. Take a big deep breath in, good. Say “eeee”. Do it a
little bit longer for me. “eeeeee” The whole area is definitely looking better. Take a
big deep breath in again. Good. They do, they look better.

This 2 minute procedure is considered a "surgery" for insurance and costs 150 bucks not covered. Further, you can BUY this machine  (without the monitor) for 500 bucks…..

I couldn't do this. I'd have a heart attack and freak out if I had to do this. I had a horrible experience at the hospital when I was a kid. I'm not sure if it was the same procedure but I was diagnosed with acid reflux and they had to stick a tube down into my nose. I was so frightened that I started to climb up on top of my bed and the doctors and nurses had to literally pull me off and lay me back down and hold me. Once they started showing me the tube I had to keep turning away until they finally got it in. It was horrible. I think I even kept on trying to scootch all the way up on to the top of the bed. But they kept pulling me back down, trying to restrain me from moving. Now my condition is getting under controlled with medicines. I hope I don't ever have to experience this ever again.

I will be getting a vocal chord lesion surgery tomorrow plus 7 tooth extractions. The doctors want to perform both procedures at the same time. Is that safe because in all honesty I'm terrified
