Flu Season Is Here | Protecting Your Kids Against the Flu

October 12, 2019

Flu season is coming soon so let’s talk
about what you can do to keep your child healthy and flu free this year. Influenza
is a respiratory virus, this means that it’s spread through coughing, sneezing,
and sometimes even talking. You can also pick up the influenza virus if you touch
something which has a viral particle on it,
these viruses can last on surfaces for up to 48 hours, so when you’re out
shopping, when your kids come home from school, make sure to wash their hands, you
can also keep some hand sanitizer with you while you’re out, so that you can sanitize frequently. Symptoms of the flu include fever, chills, achiness, body aches,
headache, sore throat, congestion, coughing some people get some chest discomfort
and younger children may have some vomiting and diarrhea as well. The most
important thing you can do to keep your child flu free this season is to get
their flu vaccine. The CDC recommends that all children ages 6 months and up get a
flu vaccine each year. The flu vaccine can decrease your chances of getting the
flu by 50%. It can also decrease your child’s chances of having a very severe
case of the flu including hospitalization and death, some young
children even do die from the flu each year.
Parents and caregivers remember to get your flu vaccine as well to protect
yourself and help protect the kids that you take care of.
