Facebook Messenger Computer Virus

December 25, 2019

The scams keep coming and this time I
almost got caught I was quickly checking in on facebook and i had a message from
my cousin overseas. It was a link to a video named “Michael-Video” so naturally I
was curious and since my profile picture is actually a video I thought my cousin
was asking, “hey how did you do this?” And yes to all you smartasses, I should have known
better – but like a dumbass I clicked on the link and much to my surprise I was taken
to a site that I thought at first glance was YouTube. I mean these jokers even
took the time to make a few thumbnails of suggested videos on the right. I
should’ve looked at the URL right away but no — I was in too much of a hurry! (chuckle) Now I
always tell people slow down and don’t be in such a hurry before you click a
link and in this case I should certainly have listened to my own advice. But hey!
this thing came from my cousin and after all I’m the Super Easy Tech Tips guy, so
what could possibly go wrong? I quickly went to click on the video and
that’s when I got that sinking feeling that I was duped! Yep, Scammed, Hoodwinked, Fooled. Suddenly I
felt about as credible as Al Gore an Internet technology convention. I stared in
disbelief at the message on the screen “You must install the codec extension to
watch this video.” You’ve got to be (censored) kidding this shit doesn’t
happen to me! But it did, and now I had to scramble to save my ass. The blatant
signs of my haste were becoming more apparent. The URL was configdnsadress and not Autoplay was turned off, I
leave mine on most of the time and the funniest part which I have to at least
applaud their humor was the fact that the YouTube account belonged to
Facebook. And somehow almost 16 million people had seen this video of me. Some
geek bastard keyboard warrior was laughing his ass off we made this I’ll tell ya. I immediately went to close my browser and to be sure I was safe I used
alt f4 like I discussed in a previous video to close it. So that I didn’t accidentally hit
anything else. Then I messaged my cousin to change his password on facebook. So
remember if you get tired of hearing me bitch and complain about going slow and
being careful about clicking on links. We all need to be reminded. Final word, never
download any codec or flash player extension when you’re trying to watch a
video. Never ever! If you need to update your computer, do it through windows
update. If you made it this far thanks for watching, share the love – smash the thumbs up if you chuckled at
least once. And if you want to see more click Subscribe.

I unfortunately fell for this, both because I was rushing and due to coincidental circumstances. I was tired and not thinking straight, so I clicked the link, and because of the specific friend that sent this to me, the differences in the style and appearance of the page didn't ring the usual alarms. I immediately reset my password, cleared all browser history, extensions and permissions, scanned my computer, and warned my friend circle about it. Hopefully, none of them fell for it. What a nuisance…

This also happens on phone. Is it your profile picture you see or your friends profile picture. I got one from my friend and it had his profile picture on it. The text was about a virus and stuff. I didnt click it. Also how and why do they even send it? Is it someone else using their profile?

  • Reply Tekato May 2, 2019 at 12:16 am

I got a problem with my facebook, my case was a little similar to yours, but it was a post, I clicked it and it asked for download when I opened it, my computer requested for restart, I restarted it and to my surprise, the file that I clicked was sent to all my friends, I tried to fix it with an anti-virus, and fixed it, and the day after it was sent again I scanned and there was no threats detected, I deactivated my account for safety, what do I do to fix it?
