Donald Trump is Lying About the Opioid Epidemic | The Rewired Soul

February 21, 2020

Donald Trump is back on Twitter
spreading lies about the real cause of the opioid epidemic here in the United
States so in this video we’re gonna use one of his least favorite things which
are facts what is up everybody this is Chris from the rewired soul where we
talk about the problem but focus on the solution and if you’re new to my channel
what I like to do is take a look at what’s going on on Twitter or YouTube or
just in society in general and just try to see what lessons we can learn from
them so if you’re into that stuff make sure you subscribe and ring that
notification bell so yeah this morning I was over on Twitter just kind of
catching up with the news and all that jazz and I saw a tweet from Donald Trump
but by the way did you know I’m on Twitter follow me on Twitter and
Instagram at the rewired soul alright but anyways i retweeted this because it
was absolutely ridiculous and he does this all the time so his tweet said 90%
of the drugs coming in to the United States come through Mexico and our
southern border 80,000 people died last year 1 million people ruined this has
gone on for many years and nothing has been done about it we have a 100 billion
dollar trade deficit with Mexico it’s time alright and this is a lie by
omission one of the things that he does is he blames Mexico because obviously
he’s trying to get his wall built but the thing is that we all need to realize
this opioid epidemic that we’re currently in is not because of other
countries yes other countries do ship in drugs but 90% of the drugs coming in and
not from Mexico they’re coming from right here in the damn United States so
what i retweeted this somebody commented and said well maybe he’s you know just
focusing on the other countries because they have been doing a crackdown
here in the United States about prescription drugs that were handing out
and well that’s true and things have gone better and I’m about to show you
some stats behind it the thing is it’s a lie by omission because he’s saying that
90% of the drugs coming in and here’s the thing pharmaceutical drugs are drugs
okay and they’re responsible for a lot a lot of the opioid deaths here in the
United States recently the BBC’s I need a study from The Lancet
Commission on global access to palliative care and pain relief this
study showed the US gets 30 tons more opioid pain relief medication than it
needs Mexico only gets 36 percent of what it needs China gets about 16
percent of what it needs India gets 4 percent of what it needs
Nigeria gets 0.2 percent of what it needs so yes this is a fact okay we get
way more prescription opioids shipped to the United States and distributed than
any other country on the planet by a huge margin so when I make videos
talking about suboxone and other prescription medications like it’s just
important to understand that we as Americans have been trained to believe
that we need these medications in order to deal with physical pain psychological
pain and I’m not saying nobody needs medications but when you look at these
statistics like ask yourself a question ask yourself an honest question do you
believe that the United States just happens to have more people struggling
with pain than any other country on Earth so why is it that we’re getting so
many opioids in the United States and distributing them to people all right so
what you’re seeing on the screen right now are stats from the National
Institute on Drug Abuse all right so according to the NIJ there were 17,000
deaths from prescription opioids compared to 15,000 deaths from heroin
most of the prescription opioid deaths involved no heroin at all while most
heroin deaths did involve another narcotic all right so one of the buys
that we are being fed is that heroin is the leading cause of overdose death in
the United States this is not true prescription opioids are still the
leading cause of opioid deaths not heroin you can also see here that many
people dying from benzos like xanax or valium had opioids in their system as
well now these are CDC statistics that show we are doing better but it’s still
a major problem now although these numbers are
downward the CDC also states in 16 percent of US counties and Neph opioid
prescriptions were dispensed for every person to have one while the overall
opioid prescribing rate in 2017 was fifty eight point seven prescriptions
per 100 people some counties had rates that were seven times higher than that
so think about that for a second think about how many opioids we are
prescribing here especially when you combine the fact that most people who
get started on heroin we’re hooked on prescription opioids before they ever
tried heroin I am a recovering prescription opioid addict and I was
this close to getting on heroin just because it would have been easier access
alright nobody wakes up in the morning like no I’m gonna try some heroin today
no most people get hooked on prescription opioids and then they look
for something that’s cheaper and stronger especially since doctors are
cracking down on how much they do prescribe so think about the people who
are getting hooked on the medication then they can’t get more of the
medication now they go to the black market to get some so now that we have
evidence showing that prescription drugs are still the primary problem you might
be asking yourself well why do we keep blaming other countries and I think we
might have the answer right here from so the Democrats their
total contributions from Big Pharma are over six point nine million dollars and
to the Republican Party it’s over nine point nine million dollars so is it any
wonder that politicians like Donald Trump and Senators and all of them are
trying to blame other countries like Mexico and China for a problem because
big pharma is trying to keep the drug addiction right here in the United
States so they could be the drug dealers rather than other countries so
statistics aside all right this is something that I witnessed personally
every single day happening to people who are in my life alright so one of my very
good friends he recently had a back spasm alright and his back started
killing him so he went to the emergency room because his back was killing him
and they prescribed him morphine and fentanyl okay morphine
and fentanyl – the most powerful opioids like when you hear the opiate epidemic
you obviously think of fentanyl for a back spasm they gave him fentanyl
okay fed no is like a very last resort pain
medication so when my friend was texting me and telling me about this cuz he
lives in another state I’m like oh my god they gave you fed no and as somebody
who has worked in the addiction treatment field as a recovering addict
myself like I’m like oh my god like as my friend gonna get hooked on opioids
and thank God thank God he’s doing all right now he’s gonna get hooked on the
drugs but if he had a genetic disposition to these drugs he might have
become an addict so you guys next year is the 2020 elections and I want you to
remember this stuff all right when politicians are telling you things like
where the drug problem really is like remember these statistics all the
sources that I cited will be linked down in the description below you can find
all these sources as well alright so on people like Donald Trump are saying
ninety percent of the drugs are coming from other countries remember most of
the drugs are coming right here in the United States from doctors prescribing
them to people and getting people hooked all right now something else somebody
brought up on Twitter was using marijuana for chronic pain management
and I’m thinking about doing a video on that comparing studies with you know
marijuana for pain management compared to like hope yours is that’s something
that you want to see let me know down in the comments below or if you have any
experience with pain management and using something else like marijuana to
manage your pain let me know down in the comments and maybe I’ll make another
video on it alright anyways that’s all I got for this video if you like this
video please give it a thumbs up if you’re new make sure you subscribe and
ring that notification bell and don’t forget to go follow me on instagram and
twitter at the rewired soul and a huge huge thank you to everybody supporting

Okay, this video got me to re-subscribe! I absolutely LOVE this. It is critically important to blast the truth under this administration. It's disgusting how he twists things to demonize immigrants. He is a lying, xenophobic, fear monger.

Most ppl I know who ever even tried heroin was because they got addicted to their prescription and then cut off
5:20 ok u said it in the video too. Good upload Chris

Doctor's give prescriptions for pain meds and then people get addicted to the meds. They do this All for money, because this way they keep the people coming back every month to renew their pain meds!
Whoever gave your buddy fentanyl and morphine for spasms, they need to be reported if they sent your buddy home with a scrpt for those!

But I can also say they do hand out pills like nobodies business I was pregnant and they wanted to give me pain pills for a scratched cornea. But democrats and Republicans are in the pocket of big pharma idk why your pushing the idea that you need to keep it in mind when you vote they both do it.

That tweet wasn’t a lie and your clearly taking the other side and I kinda have to unsubscribe now that I’m seeing it. People are getting murdered and we can’t catch them cuz they are illegal immigrants from Mexico. We get more pain medication cuz America bought and when we need more it’s there. And yes I believe we have more pain in the U.S because we have the best military and illegals coming in! How do I know you aren’t showing a fake chart too!

  • Reply Bellezza Catenaro June 1, 2019 at 6:59 pm

This video is powerful and important! The Republican's are funding the death of American citizens then projecting it onto immigrants in order to demonize them. Projection was not a political tactic until President Narcissist got elected. This is textbook Terror Management Theory making morality salient and constantly emphasizing existential threat creates a psychological condition that forces the brain to respond positively to bigoted statements and divisive rhetoric. Reminded of their own mortality through fear mongering leads people to more strongly defend those who share their worldviews and national or ethnic identity and act out more aggressively towards those who do not.

Wow I'm just blowing you up today, sorry. I use medical marijuana to manage chronic pain, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. It became the most effective treatment. It even increases my energy levels ans focus. I never used it prior to obtaining my liscense. I do not use pharmaceuticals anymore and have the full support of my PCP and psychiatrist. It is such a diverse medicine in terms of what it treats and its applications.

And to think of all the small town police departments like where I live in Michigan
That have to carry NARCAN which at 5k a pop to disperse to the person Overdosing and many of those are repeat overdosed and needing narcan I would like to maybe expand on that sometime

From what I know it's Fenanyl that's killing your people and those came from china and are brought in via mexico. And why do you mention "suboxone"? That not and opiod in the common sense but rather a medication you take when you stop.

  • Reply DorisS61 June 1, 2019 at 9:25 pm

They cracked down on prescriptions. Most docs are afraid to presircibe . And Morhin is the weakest that's why it's 1 on the scale and yes fentanyl is 100 times as strong and is the strongest legal painkiller. But he got it surely in a pain patch and that is given quite frequently to patients with backproblems.

  • Reply Jennifer Algarin June 1, 2019 at 9:26 pm

I became addicted by pain pills. I’m on the methadone clinic and try to figure out the best way to get off. I believe sobriety for me means completely having nothing in my system. I’ve had my teeth pulled and refused the pain pill. Yes I was in pain I took Tylenol went to sleep and wake up with no pain.

  • Reply Christine S June 1, 2019 at 9:31 pm

Do a video on marijuana. I'm interested in your views on it with your background in addiction and working in the treatment facility.

  • Reply Heather Savin June 1, 2019 at 9:53 pm

you did a great job making this video, Chris! thank you for sharing this very valuable information.
I live in northeast ohio and I have gone to the emergency room for a back spasm before. what I remember them doing for me is giving me cortisol shots in my lower back and prescribing me 800MG ibuprofen. I cannot imagine getting morphine and fentanyl for a back spasm. That's just going wayyy over the top in my opinion.
Edit: I also wanted to say, I gave birth in April 2018 and I got ZERO pain medication for the birth, nor the recovery. Not even motrin. BUT a reason why would be my background, I'm most likely red flagged in the system for trying to get opiates prescribed to me on multiple occasions in the past, plus being in drug treatment at the time. but none of that means I wasn't in pain during or after pushing my son out of my body!!

Yes ppl die of a lot of drugs but fentanyl is what's killing everyone at a profound rate. Ppl just think its heroin because its mixed.

  • Reply Makeup With Mandi June 1, 2019 at 10:33 pm

I was 21 years old and had pelvic pain, my doctor prescribed me 180 percocet. 2 years later I was completely dependent on percocet, xanax, methadone and Adipex.

Not sure about this opioid crack down. My dentist keeps trying to pressure me into taking vicodin and it's really strange. She's new and I actually suspect she may be using this as a tactic to build clientele.

Excellent Video. Thank you for this video. I am trying to wean off my pain medicine now. No help from my pain doctor.
My pcp is helping me. This video reinforces the decision I made to get off this was the right one. Would like to hear about people using pot for pain..

  • Reply Katie June 2, 2019 at 12:30 am

The real cause of the opioid epidemic is physicians not prescribing them to people who are actually in pain, so they have to buy them off the street.

I've been getting prescribed the same opiods & benzos for the past 6yrs without any true checkups on how my conditions are changing. Since they were so easy to get, hell I kept getting them. Now I'm having to learn to wean myself off/using self control..while still too scared to stop the's a deadly cycle.

  • Reply Rissa Ruckus June 2, 2019 at 7:26 am

Oh man. I dont like trump but let me tell you something…. Mexico is HUGE on the drug opioids. My brothers best friend died last week thinking he bought percocet and died because the pills had fentanyl in them. He legit bought them from a guy who got them from Mexico. With people so on the fence with you why bring up politics?? And it's people like you talking shit about pills that people who actually need the pills cant because you assume everyone who takes it is an addict, so doctors are refusing to give them. Almost everything you said is so dumb. I have worked in the medical field as well, and am going to school to be a PA. I tried to have your back but now Unsubscribed.

  • Reply Julie Goodrich June 2, 2019 at 4:10 pm

My doctor had me on 80mg of OxyContin twice a day and I could take 1-2 Percocet 10mg three times a day. He also gave me 30 Dilaudid for breakthrough pain! I was then put on Ativan up to three times a day for anxiety. I was never told that it was dangerous to take narcotics and benzos together. I’m not sure how I’m still alive today!!!
