Congratulations to the Class of 2019 | Weill Cornell Medicine

February 9, 2020

Parents, families, and friends, please join me in congratulating the class of 2019. We are immensely proud of their achievements, and we can’t wait to see what the coming years will bring. Thank you. I’m the first in my family to graduate from high school and to pursue higher education. I’m originally from Ghana, and my family sacrificed a lot to bring myself and my younger sister over to America so that we can have opportunities that we wouldn’t have. It’s a culmination of literally seven years worth of time, effort, tears, smiles, laughter, memories. So, everything. Finishing a journey through being immigrants to the U.S. and finally getting to graduate medical school is definitely a dream come true. Having my family here supporting me, I had tears in my eyes. It was a long journey, and I can’t believe that it’s done, and I’m on to exciting things. Weill Cornell Medicine has given us all the support, mentors, resources, systems. It’s given us everything we need to succeed in life and to make changes in the future. I’m actually staying here at Weill Cornell and doing my OB-GYN residency. So, I’m super, super excited. I’m part of the inaugural Executive MBA/MS program which has started this year. They have really helped us move forward, and I think I’m prepared to take the next step of my career now. We’re doctors. We finally made it. And honestly, I couldn’t have done this without Cornell’s resources. The faculty, the administration, the new curriculum, everything. Even projects that weren’t part of the curriculum that you wanted to do on your own, I found endless support to pursue all those endeavors. So, I’m incredibly grateful for all of Cornell.
