Cold & Flu Care : How to Care for a Cold

November 16, 2019

The common cold has a tremendous impact on
public health. It is a very common reason, for people to see their primary care doctor.
Before doing so, I would suggest trying some over the counter medicines, that can help
with your symptoms, and help you get over your cold, without having to go out of your
way to see your doctor. First of all, if you don’t have any contraindications to taking
decongestants, namely, high blood pressure, or heart disease. Sudafed would work very
well for drying up the mucous membranes, in the nasal passage. If that doesn’t work, try
Guaifenesin, which is an expectorant, which thins out the snot in the nasal cavity. That
also, is keeping in mind, that you increase your water intake, to stay well hydrated,
and as needed, also using nasal saline spray, to keep the nasal passage moist. If that doesn’t
work, then it would be a good idea to see your primary care doctor. I’m Dr.Savage. I’m
an osteopathic family practice physician, in Tampa, and I wish you the best of health.
