Briton who contracted coronavirus in Wuhan explains symptoms

March 9, 2020

It was a case of, I’ve never
experienced this before and that’s what worried me
the most. A the end of November, I was
feeling just a normal cold. and the problem with this virus
is that it progresses in stages. So you’ll have a cold, you’ll get better,
you’ll get worse, you’ll get better and then you get worse again. Personally, I started with a cold. I got better from the cold
and that’s when I was hit with the flu. But I got better from the flu and that’s
when I was hit with pneumonia. And the pneumonia stage, because
I’ve never experienced it before, that’s when I went to the hospital
and got it checked out. I was feeling achy, I just wanted
to curl up into a ball. I had ear problems and sinus problems,
where it felt like there was a balloon being blown up
in my face. From there, that’s when the pneumonia
stage hit and that came very suddenly. It was a case of going to bed,
waking up and not being able to breathe. It scared me because breathing is
the necessity to life. If you have the flu, you feel like
you’re going to die, but you’re really not. But when your lungs get affected,
that’s when it scared me and I couldn’t take a full breath. It’s the sort of thing … And especially how it progresses from
just a common cold to that. People can just have a cold
and still go about their daily business and start infecting other people
and this is why it’s very important that people in the UK, if they
have any symptoms of any disease, or problem or illness, that they should
go and get it checked out first and also try and stay home
as much as possible.

The virus goes into your ACE2 receptors at the bottom of your lungs and it then replicates and you get viral pneumonia. That's the virus' job!

  • Reply Kit Hale March 7, 2020 at 8:29 pm

I've had viral pneumonia and it's horrible. I was sleeping upright with pillows stacked behind me. The worse thing is until it gets bad enough ti become a secondary infection antibiotics wont help.

Watching this is like looking at myself back in early Feb.
I had every symptom and illness you're describing and in that order I'm 40 and in all my years I've never felt that bad it brought me to tears twice. I had horrendous flu then following that I was diagnosed with bronchl pneumonia I could not walk upstairs without nearly suffocating.
I was coughing up phlem constantly for min 3 weeks I took amoxicillin which did nothing.
Then I took ciprofloxacin which eventually cleared after another fortnight. Unless It was my body fighting it off naturally?
At 1st I thought it was 50 50 I had it the more I look into it the more I think I had it. I then had a common cold followed by chronic post viral syndrome which flattened me I slept pretty much all day for another week. I looked like I was dying. 7 weeks on I'm 100% and back in gym. I'm so glad as my heart rate never dropped below 100 for weeks. My bp was elevated but not dangerous.
Like 160/90. It's too late to test now as I'm no longer coughing up anything but it does make me really wonder. Thanks for upload BTW

Surely when all this is over China needs to introduce safeguarding measures in these Chinese rural live food markets, like health and safety inspectors in the food industry do when they assess restaurants in the UK and USA, they need to implement this to prevent further viruses occurring, and lets be honest, its in their own best interests as its going to affect their economy very badly

I have previously , like most people , had bad chests and chest infections in the past .
    Moving forward ,
Just before Christmas I suffered from a bad chest which was different from anything previous .
I was so short of breath I thought I was going to suffocate .
My physical ability was seriously impaired , I felt very short of oxygen .
I was so short of breath I was unable to sleep because of inability to breathe .
Painful coughing and coughing up blood .
That was December through January .
I now have the same symptoms but even worse than before .
I have not been anywhere abroad since 2017 .
    I live in England .
I rarely go out socialising .
I have been to a hospital in January and they admitted me to their care but later
Refered me to the care of my gp. however an appointment was not available for some time .
After those looking after me protested to the Surgery an unknown Doctor rang me and said
I did not sound short of breath at all , on the phone and when asked said the purpose of
Her call was to determine whether I really needed an appointment , despite the urgency
expressed in the release letter from the Hozpital Doctor .
I asked Please may I have some antibiotics as requested by the Hospital Doctor .
I was given no appointment and it took 2 weeks to get the first antibiotic .
In the meantime my condition worsened .
I have been to a Doctors Surgery once in February and once in March .
I have never been to Wuhan .

UK here… This guy is explaining something that I mostly had before Christmas, I caught a really rough cold that got better after 4 days, then got worse 12 hours later as thought it was full flu symptoms and like he said about the balloon, my face just felt like a slow motion grenade went off in my head, ear pressure imbalance pain was horrible, sinus infection and pus out of right nostril was never ending. On the 9th day I felt like I was really going to die and was an hour away from deciding on going to the walk in center as I was now fearing for my life… All this and I can't say I noticed any Pneumonia symptoms, maybe a little bit ???, had I got full severe Pneumonia symptoms on top of what I already had, I think begging for the bullet would have been a happy thought… Now I'm kind of thinking I don't want to try this Coronavirus thing, nor do I think it's just something small like a bad cold that people say don't be soft about. What I had before Christmas made me use 5 packs of Ibuprofen tablets and 7 packs of Cold/Flu tablets, they did nothing, which is an astonishing amount than I normally use for a cold, usually just a pack and a half or two of cold/flu tablets. I feel now I should have gone the walk in center earlier and had myself prescribed Amoxicillin, though I heard that was useless too.

For Your Information, the Corona Virus or COVID-19 may seem alarming at first, but the media always to tend to over exaggerate things and deaths from the virus are more likely due to people being older and already have pre-existing medical conditions.

To be safe, just cover your mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing perhaps where an anti pollution mask, wash your hands with soap and water and keep your immune system in check.

  • Reply Not just another guy March 7, 2020 at 11:56 pm

It seems like it does NOT come in stages for most people, seems like most people are hit suddenly with a fever followed by a cough, then it progresses until the fever goes down and you start to feel better quite rapidly. Like it hits you on the way in and it hits you on the way out, without any warnings. That's from what I've seen on most survivor stories. This guy makes a mistake saying that it does come in stages, when he should have said it CAN come in stages, because his experience seems to be rather unusual.

If this disease gets so serious that all travel is banned and people are forced to stay home, I hope Trump issues an executive order forbidding landlords, banks, and insurance companies from evicting tenants, collecting on payments owed, or from cancelling insurance plans (for 60 days at least). If I can't leave my house or commute to work, how can I pay my bills?

What you’re describing is exactly how I felt in 2019
I had a serious sinus issues early in the year , which kept being an ongoing thing , I would have vertigo also, I then started with throat infections and sinus infections that would come and go , then lots of fatigue, no fever though. This went on for months on and off, come July my chest was affected, I felt I had constant mucus build up, yet there was no sign of ‘infection’ in my xrays, my breathing sounded so wheezy I felt short of breathe, with a sore / swollen throat and sinuses. I just couldn’t shake it off

This was ongoing for 6 weeks I later found out after a swab that I had Type A influenza ‘supposedly’ unfortunately my brother also got sick and died. This was last year August. I wonder whether we had this virus back then ?

Telling people to run to the hospital when they get the sniffles is going to overload the system. The virus is going to spread the best advice is to stay home if you get sick and not spread it around even if it's just a common cold. If your fever last more then 3 days, or shortness of breath go to the hospital get it checked out or see your doctor first if you can.

However corona virus sounds really similar, i'm not looking forward to it, and we will all get it at some point
