Brian shares his flu story | MyShot

November 12, 2019

Before I had any type of lung disease, I was very active. About 15 years ago, I was diagnosed with genetic COPD. Because of that, I continued to lose lung function, and it’s very difficult to breathe. I ended up getting a double lung transplant three and a half years ago. About 4 months out, I started kayaking and biking and building decks and back to a normal life. My medical team told me if I happen to get the flu, that I could possibly die. I could go into rejection, and maybe the mildest is that I would get very sick. Recovery could take a long time. I am really proactive with my healthcare. Make sure I wash my hands, cover my cough. Also made sure that I had my flu shot every year. I want to stay healthy to enjoy life. I love hanging out with my family and friends, my new grandkids, and also my donor’s family. I enjoy riding my bike just to have that freedom. The gift that I got to be able to breathe again with ease. My name is Brian and I make sure I get MyShot. If you are 50 years of age and older or have a chronic health condition, ask your doctor, “Why am I at greater risk if I get the flu?” and “What flu shot options might be right for me?” Go to GetMyShot.org to learn more.

I know Brian, personally, and this video brings tears to my eyes that he could still be here on this earth living and loving his life and family.
If you see this, Brian, I am so proud of you and the voice you have become through your journey. I love you. Stay strong and healthy.
