Birth Control Side Effects – Does the IUD cause infections? Ask a doctor @Bedsider

August 18, 2019

So there’s this idea that maybe
the IUD is associated with a higher risk of
uterine infection or infertility. Um, that’s not true we know that std’s unlike gonorrhea or chlamydia increase
the risk of infection in your uterus and infertility and that’s gonna happen to someone
regardless of whether they have an IUD. So I trust my patients and I tell them
that if they’re in a new relationship the IUD will not protect against that and
remind them to use a condom if they’re at risk. But that’s not a reason to withhold the
most effective birth control.
