Baby gorilla and mum’s emotional reunion after overcoming pneumonia

October 19, 2019

If like us, you have been following the progress
of the baby gorilla born at San Diego Zoo, you will be pleased to know she has been reunited
with her mum. Today was the first day that the troop was
together with Imani and her baby girl, and we let them out on exhibit together and everything
seems to be going really well, mom’s doing a great job. The little girl was born by emergency c-section
at the zoo after mum Imani couldn’t complete her labour. Zoo staff are pleased with the progress of
both mum and baby. After her birth the tiny gorilla came down
with pneumonia, but is now well enough to go out in the enclosure with the rest of her
troop, with mum Imani being very protective of course. She kept the baby close to her chest, just
like she should, and the group came out, the kids were definitely the most interested.
Frank and Monroe are the youngest, showed the most curiosity about the baby. The rest
of the group members were definitely ready to be out foraging on exhibit. Unfortunately they still haven’t given the
little cutie a name, but the zoo’s other gorilla residents seemed to have welcomed her with
open arms.

Phew, lucky this baby gorilla wasn't born in Denmark, they would've killed it lmao

Pleasantly surprised that they are letting the mother raise her own baby. I had frankly expected them to pull the baby considering her earlier medical condition

Fabulous!  I'm amazed the mother didn't reject her, as mum didn't get a chance to have a natural birth and smell the baby after the C Section.

Oh happy day when non-human animals are no longer imprisoned by human animals.

Anyone know how the mom was able to nurse her baby after being separated from birth? I was surprised to see her nursing her little one. It doesn't take a human mom long for her milk to dry up after initially becoming painfully engorged. If anyone knows how the zoo handled that problem, please let me know.

We should be ASHAMED of how we treat these magnificent creatures! Cage them in circuses & zoos. Many are trapped in nasty roadside exhibits. We separate them from their troops, their mothers, their children, & so many live & die in captivity. We don't have the right to interfere with them!

how degrading and awful to put these magnificent animals in an "exhibit"  people are shit.  get a fucking clue people   stop interfering.  mom knows what to do with the baby.  how fucking dare you imply that she doesn't.  go fuck yourselves zoo people.

Such a lovely story. However, allow Zoo staff to narrate. I think it is very poor choice. When you employ people to narrate, who have the most boring voices/lacking in empathy. Quite Frankly, they should find another avenue for whatever talent, they think they have. This is NOT IT!

I wish the baby were born free though. These animals are so similar to humans, I just don't see how people can live with themselves keeping them imprisoned like this. They are innocent beings.
