6 Ways Coconut Oil Can Benefit Those With Thyroid Problems

August 18, 2019

Coconut oil has many health benefits that
are well-documented. However, one recently discovered benefit is
that coconut oil can help treat symptoms of hypothyroidism, or an under-active thyroid. Hypothyroidism occurs when the body’s thyroid
gland does not make enough hormones to allow the body to function appropriately. Coconut oil contains a fatty acid called lauric
acid, which has anti-inflammatory properties. Coconut oil also contains capric acid, which
has antimicrobial and antiviral properties. It is recommended that you use extra virgin
coconut oil for the best health benefits. One tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil
should be consumed daily. It can be added to hot beverages, such as
tea or coffee, and added to daily cooking, drizzled over a salad or added to a smoothie. Today’s video will discuss health issues
that coconut oil can help treat. 1. Metabolism When the body’s thyroid is under-active,
it can cause the body to feel fatigued and without energy. The fatty acids in coconut oil help the fats
in the body convert to energy. This, in turn, boosts the body’s metabolic
rate. 2. Weight Loss One of the most major symptoms of an under-active
thyroid is unexplained weight gain. The weight is very hard to lose and the thyroid
hormones directly slow down the body’s metabolism. The Journal of Nutrition published a study
that showed the fatty acids in coconut oil help to keep the body feeling fuller, longer. Thus, assisting the body in shedding excess
weight. 3. Constipation When hormones from the thyroid are low, the
body’s organs run slower as well, causing the digestive tract and intestines to lag. The fatty acids in coconut oil provide the
body with energy and boost organ function. Coconut oil also works as a natural laxative
and is effective in fighting constipation. 4. Inflammation An under-active thyroid causes muscle and
joint pain, largely from unbalanced hormone levels. Coconut oil can naturally calm any inflammation
and relieve any pain. 5. Hair Loss The thyroid can affect the health of your
hair and may even cause it to begin to fall out. However, adding coconut oil to your regime
will prevent this from occurring and repair hair follicles. 6. Dry Skin The imbalance of hormones caused by an under-active
thyroid can cause the body’s skin to become dry and flaky. Coconut oil can be added directly to the affected
skin to restore its moisture and healthy skin. Have you experienced an under-active thyroid? Have you tried any of these remedies? Let us know in our comment section. If you like the video, give it a thumbs up

A year ago I started adding coconut oil to my morning and evening tea.
Since that change, I have lost 60 lbs; stopped being exhausted and have been able to get into a regular routine of mild exercise with low weights, yoga and isometrics. Chronic dryness has left me and my mouth has gone back to healthy saliva production.
These changes were gradual over time but they were very noticeable and began within the first week.
    1) being chronically cold ended
    2) physical body aches eased
    3) being sleepy after eating ended
    4) focus improved
    5) I lost 2 inches off my stomach
    6) being hungry in the middle of the night ended
    7) cravings for certain foods ended
    8) dry mouth ended
    9) brain fog ended
    10) hair became healthier
    11) joint pain and recovery from physical activity improved

I had to start with a teaspoon and working up to two tablespoons. My desire for eating good things went through the roof. Healthy fat feeds the brain. I was on a low fat diet (per doctor) and I kept getting worse. My grandma who is 95 ate lard sandwiches as a child in the winter. She grew up on a working farm with organic foods.
I’m going back to eating unprocessed Keto / Paleo with no carbs except vegetables (nothing white). Best to you all.

  • Reply Rose Ladd January 31, 2018 at 1:28 am

I have made many of the examples you speak about in the video apart of my daily routine. One new thing I have applied is for dry skin on my feet, at night I wash my feet with a solution of baking soda and water with 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, after cleaning I apply coconut oil to the feet esp. the dry rough spots and put on cotton socks overnight. It is a conditioning to the skin to become softer and also helps you to sleep good and relaxation.

I did like it & makes sense. Coconut oil unadulterated is just plain good stuff! As long as you're not taking to much of it, & in conjunction with the wrong supplements such a magnesium citrate. Unless you need to crap? & remember it's still a saturated fat, not a poly or mono-unsaturated fat (heart healthy) so you shouldn't take too many scoop fulls of coconut oil for weight loss, especially if you've any pre-existing heart conditions! It does possess heart beneficial properties as well, but with common sense & care, go easy.

I hope I reach my target weight in just one more month. People be cautious take 4lits of water, 3 lemons, at least 1 multi vitamin tablet each day in this diet. Ur hunger levels go down drastically but u will receive more energy from this diet…

My Synthroid I take for hypothyroid make me a nervous wreck. Ever since I got off my antidepressant Nardil 3 1/2 years ago, I had to get on BP meds and tranquilizer. I was fine when I was on Nardil with Synthroid, I should have never gotten off Nardil. I had to start eating very very low sodium diet cuz I developed dizzies and balance problems since I got off Nardil. I was on Nardil 28 years for panic attacks/agoraphobia/anxiety. I was so scared of my BP that I went on vegetarian diet and went from 214 lbs to 147. Now am 170 lbs eating too much at diner. My fault. Anyway, Synthroid causes me high anxiety I don't go out much anymore. I tried once coconut oil, my friend put some in my spinach, looked like a lot, made me more dizzy and nervous, I didn't have it since. Maybe it's truly healing the thyroid where it's making my Synthroid feel like I am taking too much even tho my TSH is high and T3 and T4 always normal. I want to try coconut oil again but am scared.

There is nothing UNEXPLAINED about weight gain when it comes to an under-active thyroid. Thyroid hormones play huge role in metabolism, speeding the processes, under-active thyroid => less thyroid hormones => slower metabolism => more stored fat => weight gain. Easy as that. People should stop making a rocket science out of everything.
