October 12, 2019

Richard Bacon is in a medically induced coma after falling critically ill with pneumonia.  The former Blue Peter presenter, 42, was taken off a plane from America in a wheelchair and rushed to A&E over a week ago  Doctors diagnosed the dad-of-two with pneumonia, which can be caused by a virus or bacteria and causes the air sacs to fill with pus  The former BBC Radio 5 live presenter was initially well enough to share a photo later that day in a passionate support of the NHS  He tweeted a picture of himself hooked up to medical machines in a hospital bed in Lewisham, south east London, and wrote: “Thank God I got ill in Britain (actually on the way to Britain, was taken off the plane in a wheelchair) ”  “F**k all the ideology driven politicians who’ve messed up America’s healthcare system. Viva the NHS. Happy 70th.”  To a friend who asked what was wrong, Richard said: “It looks l’ve got pneumonia Although I thought that was for people in their 80s.”  And when BBC news presenter Rachael Bland, who herself is currently battling cancer, sent her best wishes, Richard responded: “Thanks Rachael Basically pneumonia.  “But across two lungs. I’ll be here a few days. Something I think you know a lot about.”  Last night his sister Juliet revealed he had been placed in an induced coma later that day after his condition apparently took a dramatic turn for the worse  She wrote on Instagram: “This is my seventh day visiting my brother who’s been in an induced coma since last Thursday, just so grateful to the NHS x”  Today former Radio Nottingham boss Dean Jackson gave a condition update on his pal  He told the BBC: “He is being kept in the coma to get more oxygen into his system but they are hoping to reduce the sedative soon, so hopefully there will be good news ” Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will start in 8Cancel Play now  The Mirror Online has contacted his reps for comment  Celebrity pals have sending their well wishes on social media, including TV presenter Piers Morgan and comedian Keith Lemon  Piers wrote to Richard’s sister on Instagram: “Juliet, I am shocked to hear this. Sending you and the whole family all my love and support  “Must be an incredibly worrying time. If there’s anything you need, just shout. Piers.”  The TV and radio personality was diagnosed earlier this year with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD  Richard, who was fired from Blue Peter in 1998 when he was caught snorting cocaine, had a brain scan that revealed he has two types of ADHD  He sought help after his behaviour spiralled out of control.  “I’d lose credit cards twice a week and my wallet, keys, passport and phone,” he said  “It sounds trivial, but the consequences add up to something quite serious for your family.  “On top of that, I was going out too late and drinking too much I was opening a bottle of wine and getting through it in front of the telly at night.  “It was causing pain and chaos and I was tired all the time ”  He added: “It’s a relief to be diagnosed. I’m so much better, I’m sleeping a lot better, only drinking a couple of times a week and a lot less ”
